    Feature setup

    1. To enter the feature setup mode,press and hold SETUP until the

    system announces Voice is.... Press SETUP repeatedly to hear each

    feature.

    3. When you hear the feature you wantto modify, press ANNC/SKIP or

    MEMO/REPEAT to change thesetting.

    4. Press PLAY/STOP to exit featuresetup. The new setting will be saved.

    You may choose English or Espanolfor the language used by the systemwhen it announces voice prompts.During setup, the message window

    will display the current languagesetting (E for English or S forSpanish).

    Choose the number of rings beforethe system answers a call. You canset it between two and seven rings,toll saver /4 or toll saver 4/6.

    When the toll saver is set as /4,the system answers after four rings ifthere are no new messages, or aftertwo rings if there are new messages.When the toll saver is set as 4/6, thesystem answers after six rings if thereare no new messages, or after fourrings if there are new messages.During setup, the message windowwill display the number of rings (8for toll saver /4, or 9 for toll saver4/6).

    Change the remote access code toany three-digit number between 500and 999.The remote access code is presetto 500 and allows you to accessmany features of this answeringsystem remotely from a touch tonetelephone.The three digits of the remote accesscode are set separately. The systemwill prompt you to set the secondand third digits after setting the first

    digit. See Feature setup above

    Operation

    The system automatically saves allincoming messages until you deletethem. You can store approximately40 minutes of messages, memos andannouncements (up to a maximumof 99 messages).Before playing each message, thesystem announces the day and time

    the message was received. If Storenumber is activated, the system alsoannounces the callers telephone

    number (see Store number underFeature setup on page 3). Afterplaying the last message, the systemannounces End of messages.Messages cannot be deleted untilthey have been reviewed; deletedmessages cannot be retrieved.

    Operationto record an announcement, the systemanswers with a pre-recorded

    announcement: Hello. Please leave amessage after the tone.1. Press and hold ANNC/SKIP. When

    the system beeps, speak toward themicrophone at the lower right cornerof the answering system, from aboutnine inches away. While recording,the message window blinks .

    2. To stop recording, releaseANNC/SKIP. The system

    automatically plays back the outgoingannouncement.

    To review the outgoingannouncement, press ANNC/SKIP.

    To erase the outgoing announcementand return to the pre-recordedannouncement, press DELETE while theannouncement is playing. Caller canskip the outgoing announcement bypressing #.

    Record a memoA memo can be up to three minutes andwill be stored as an incoming message.1. Press and hold MEMO/REPEAT.

    When the system beeps, speaktoward the microphone at the lowerright corner of the answering system.

    2. To stop recording, releaseMEMO/REPEAT.

    3. To play memo, press PLAY/STOP.

    Answer callsWhen the system answers a call, thecaller hears the outgoing announcementfollowed by a beep. After the beep, thesystem begins recording the callersmessage. A caller can leave a message

    of up to three minutes. If the messageis longer than three minutes, or if thecaller is silent for more than sevenconsecutive seconds, or if the systemruns out of memory, the system beepsonce and hangs up. Callers can skip theoutgoing announcement by pressing #.

    Call screening/interceptTurn on the answering system and set

    the volume control so you can hearthe callers message. If the numberannounce feature is on, the callerstelephone number will be announced.

    NOTE: If you listen to messages or changefeature settings, the volume willautomatically adjust to an audible level. Itwill be necessary to reset the volume to thelowest setting.

    If you decide to speak with the caller,lift the handset of any telephone on thesame line.

    After you set the time once, the systemwill always be set automatically withincoming caller ID information. The timewill be set automatically only if yousubscribe to caller ID service providedby your local telephone company.

    Set the ClockYou must set the clock so that the

    system announces the correct day andtime of any incoming messages. Press

    PLAY/STOP to hear the currentsetting and to exit at anytime whilesetting the clock.

    Press and hold CLOCK until themessage window displays C, andthe default day is announced.

    To change the day setting, press

    MEMO/REPEAT orANNC/SKIP until the correct day

    is announced.Press CLOCK. The current hoursetting is announced. The correctday setting is saved.To change the hour setting, press

    MEMO/REPEAT orANNC/SKIP until the correct

    hour is announced.Press CLOCK. The current minutesetting is announced. The correcthour setting is saved.To change the minute setting, press

    MEMO/REPEAT orANNC/SKIP until the correct

    minute is announced.Press CLOCK. The current yearsetting is announced. The correctminute setting is saved.To change the year setting, press

    MEMO/REPEAT orANNC/SKIP until the correct

    year is announced.Press CLOCK. The new day, timeand year are saved. The correct yearsetting is saved.

    To check the clock, press CLOCK.

    NOTE: In the event of a power failure, seethe instructions on the bottom of the unit toreset the clock. If the clock is not set, beforeplaying messages, the system will announce

    power failure each time.

    Record your announcementBefore using this answering system,you should record the outgoingannouncement (up to three minutes

    long) that callers will hear when thesystem answers a call. If you choose not

    If you want the system to answer a callwhen you are playing a message, press

    PLAY/STOP to end messageplayback.

    Play messages - PressPLAY/STOP. If there are new

    messages, they will be played. Ifthere are no new messages, the oldmessages will be played. If there areno messages in memory, the systemannounces No messages.

    Play message at half speed - Pressand hold MEMO/REPEAT while themessage is playing.

    Play message twice as fast - Pressand hold ANNC/SKIP while the

    message is playing.

    Repeat previous message - PressMEMO/REPEAT while message is

    playing, continue this process to listento other previous messages.

    NOTE: If there is only one message recordedin the system, the message will be playedagain after MEMO/REPEAT is pressed.

    Skip to next message - PressANNC/SKIP.

    Stop message playback - PressPLAY/STOP.

    Save messagesThe system automatically saves allincoming messages if you do notdelete them. The system can save

    approximately 40 minutes of messages,including the outgoing announcement,for a total of up to 99 messages. Whenthe memory is full, some messagesmust be deleted before new messagescan be recorded.

    Memory monitorTo determine the systems remaining

    recording time:1. If the system is on, press ON/OFF

    to turn the system off.2. Press ON/OFF again to turn the

    system on. The system announcesthe remaining recording time inminutes (If less than five minutesremain, the system announces

    The machine is on. Less than fiveminutes to record.)

    The system stops recording and youcan answer calls. If the system doesnot disconnect immediately, press andrelease the telephone switch hook.

    Caller ID number announce

    NOTE: You must subscribe to the caller IDservice from your local telephone companyfor this feature. There may be a fee for thisservice, and it may not be available in allareas.

    This system can announce thetelephone number of a caller betweenthe second and third ring (See Featuresetup and Feature summary on pages2-3 to turn this feature on).

    Store numberWhen this feature is on, the system willannounce the callers number before

    playing back a message.Accept blocked callsWhen this feature is turned off, thesystem will respond to blocked calls(from callers who have chosen to blocktheir numbers from identification) withthe pre-recorded announcement, Weresorry, blocked calls to this number

    cannot be accepted.The systemthen hangs up without recording anyincoming messages. When this featureis turned on, it will answer and recordmessages from any callers.

    Message windowThe message window displays the totalnumber of messages recorded. If thereare more than nine messages recorded,

    the message window displays the firstdigit, second digit and dash alternately.If the message window displays F, thenthe memory is full and some messagesmust be deleted before new messagescan be recorded.

    Listen to incoming messagesWhen the system plays incoming

    messages, the message windowdisplays the number of the messageplaying. Before playing each message,the system announces the day andtime the message was received. If theclock was not set when the messagewas recorded, or there was a powerfailure after it was set, the system willannounce power failureafter the time

    and day. After playing the last message,

    message window displays 0. If there are

    unreviewed messages, the system willplay an error tone and will not deleteany messages.Delete selected messages - PressDEETE while the desired messageis being played. The system willdelete the message and play the nextmessage.If you want to replay a message beforedeleting it, press MEMO/REPET.When the system reaches the endof the last message, those messagesthat have not been deleted will berenumbered and the message windowwill then display the total number ofmessages remaining in memory.

    When the memory is full, or when

    99 messages have been recorded, Fflashes in the message window. Youwill then need to delete messages tomake room for new ones. When thememory is full, the system will answercalls after 10 rings, announce Memoryis fulland then will beep twice withoutplaying the outgoing announcement.Enter your remote access code anddelete some or all messages.

    Delete messagesDelete messages - press and holdDEETE in idle mode. The systemannounces Messages deletedandpermanently deletes all messages. The

    3. To use a remote access command(below), press 5 during messageplayback and wait for the two-beepsignal.

    4. Enter a remote access command.

    You can access many features remotely

    from a touch tone telephone.1. Dial your telephone number.2. When the system answers, enter

    your three-digit remote access codeduring or after the announcement.The system announces thenumber of messages, then beginsplaying back the messages. If theannouncement continues to play

    When the system is off, it answers after 10 rings, and

    announces The machine is off. The system beepstwice. You have two options to turn the system on:1. Press *0, the system announces The machineis on, xx minutes to record, then beeps twice. Thesystem is now turned on. You can leave a messageby pressing # or you can hang up to exit.2. Enter your three-digit remote access code, press 5during the message playback, then press 0.

    Remote operation

    In case of difficultyIf you have difficulty operating this answering system, try the suggestions below.For Customer Service, to purchase accessories or to obtain replacement parts,

    visit our website at www.telephones.att.com or call 1 (800) 222-3111.In Canada dial 1 (866) 288-4268. Please retain your receipt as your proof ofpurchase.

    The system can accept messages of up to threeminutes.If a caller leaves a long message, part of it might

    be lost when the system disconnects the callafter three minutes.If the memory is full when recording a message,the system stops and disconnects the call.

    If the toll saver feature is on, the number ofrings changes from four to two, or six to four,when there are new messages waiting.

    In some cases, the system might be affected bythe ringing system used by the local telephonecompany.If the systems memory is full or the system isoff, the system answers after 10 rings.If the system is in feature setup mode and a callcomes in, it will not answer the call until youpress P/STOPP/STOP or the setup timeout has

    elapsed.

    Messages areincomplete.

    System does notanswer after correctnumber rings.

    When the memory is full, some saved messagesmust be deleted before new messages can berecorded.

    Make sure you are calling from a touch tone

    telephone. When dialing a number, there should

    be audible tones. If there are clicks instead, the

    telephone is not a touch tone telephone.

    The answering system may not detect the

    remote access code while the announcement is

    playing. Try entering the code again when the

    announcement is over.There may be noise interference on the

    telephone line. Press the dial buttons firmly.

    Make sure the remote access code is entered

    correctly.

    You might be calling from a telephone which

    sends tones too short for the answering system

    to detect.

    If there are many messages recorded, the system

    may take longer than usual to respond.

    If the system is disconnected from the AC

    power, it will not operate. The announcement

    and messages are retained in memory during a

    power failure, but it will be necessary to reset

    the clock. See the instructions at the bottom of

    the answering machine.

    If the system announces, power failure

    after announcing the time and day, it may be

    necessary to reset the clock. See the instructions

    at the bottom of the unit.

    System does not

    Make sure the power cord is securely connected

    to both the answering system and an electrical

    outlet not controlled by a wall switch.

    General product care

    To keep the answering system working and looking good, follow these guidelines:

    Avoid putting it near heating appliances and devices which generateelectrical noise (motors, fluorescent lights, etc.)

    DO NOT expose it to direct sunlight or moisture.

    Avoid dropping the answering system and/or other rough treatment.

    Clean with a soft cloth.

    Never use a strong cleaning agent or abrasive powder because this willdamage the finish.

    Retain the original packaging in case it is necessary to ship it at a laterdate.
