Why Worry?

Phone Service Restored after VandalismApril 9, 2009

Some 17 hours after critical fiber-optic cables were cut by someone who climbed down a manhole early Thursday morning, phone service was finally restored to Morgan Hill and Gilroy and parts of Santa Cruz and San Benito counties.

But earlier in the day it was as if time turned back a generation. No landlines. No cell phone service. No Internet connection or working ATMs.

If people had emergencies, they were told to run outside and flag down passing patrol cars or drive to the nearest fire station. Firefighters perched on a hilltop to scout for fires. Banks locked their doors, issued handwritten receipts for deposits and allowed only one person inside at a time.

About Sentri

Page 40: AudioCodes Webinar: Migrating to Unified Communications with Microsoft Lync

Case Study 1: Lync - Coexistence

Project Requirements:• Implement a standard IM/Presence System

for everyone in the company• Bring Web and Audio Conferencing in-house

to realize savings• Provide ability to integrate into Video

Conferencing platform when required• Provide a slow migration with little to no

impact on the user base in a way where Cisco can be decommissioned in the future without re-architecting the solution

Current Situation:• Currently on Cisco• External Conferencing Service• No integrated internal

IM/Presence• Still on Contract with Cisco for

24 months

Solution:• Implemented Lync in line with current Cisco Environment• Implemented reciprocal Dial plans to allow interoperability• Enabled Lync conferencing for all employees• Completed the project in 8 weeks from planning to fully deployed

Page 41: AudioCodes Webinar: Migrating to Unified Communications with Microsoft Lync

Case Study 2: Lync - Replacement

Project Requirements:• Implement Lync as a PBX• Competitive situation with Cisco• Implement a standard IM/Presence System

for everyone in the company, including UK, Europe and China

• Bring Web and Audio Conferencing in-house to realize savings for internal and external meetings

• Cutover over a weekend

Current Situation:• Previously on Cisco• External Conferencing Service• No integrated internal IM/Presence• Cisco system end of life requiring

replacement• Need to be able to easily integrate

into Video platforms• Required multi-national solution

Solution:• Upgrade Exchange to 2010 and implement UM• Bring up Lync alongside of Cisco for testing purposes• Implement SIP trunking for conferencing along side PRIs for inbound dialing• Deployed local Lync pool in Europe to serve that market• Improved employee productivity by allowing real-time access anywhere in the world

without a VPN• Replaced WebEx with Lync conferencing which is saving money every month
