Tips from Your Local PGA ProAfter watching the Open you may have seen lots of different swings, but one thing that doesn’t change much is the set up position. Many golfers overlook

their posture. Rather than take time to see that their weight is properly distributed at address, or that they have the right amount of forward tilt, they set up to the ball quickly and carelessly and simply let it fly. If this is your preshot pattern, slow down! You need to pay more attention to your posture. If you don't, you'll have a hard time maintaining your balance and keeping the club on the desired swing path. On the other hand, the better your posture is, the more likely you are to move everything properly during the swing, and thus build club head speed and power.Good posture is grounded in a forward tilt from the hips -- not the waist -- of about 30 degrees. If you're not sure how much 30 degrees is, picture yourself standing in the middle of a clock face. If your upper torso is the top hand, it should point toward one o'clock. Think of this as your swings "Happy Hour:" You should maintain it for as long as you can, from your backswing to your finish. This posture prevents you from moving up or down during the swing, and helps guide the club on the correct path, which is at 90 degrees to your spine. Why 90 degrees? If you were to attach a ball to a rope and swing it around in a circle, it would move fastest when it's rotating at 90 degrees to your arm. The golf swing works by the same principle: For the club to move its fastest, it must rotate at 90 degrees to its axis, which, in this instance, is the spine Since the lie angle (the angle from the ground to the shaft when the club is soled) of most clubs is built around 60 degrees -- about 65 degrees for the shortest clubs and 55 degrees for the longest -- you must bend forward about 30 degrees, or to one o'clock, to reach this optimum 90-degree angle. When your address is too erect (12 o'clock posture) or bent over (two o'clock posture), it's almost impossible to swing the club on this path. When vertical, the tendency is to roll the arms early during the takeaway, promoting a very round swing path. The likely result is a pull and maybe even a topped shot. When hunched over, the tendency is to swing the club too much from the inside. This makes it difficult to clear the left side of the body out of the way during the downswing, leading to an open clubface, and, in most cases, a shot pushed to the right. ESTABLISHING THE CORRECT FORWARD TILT at address is only one element of good posture. The other is making sure all your weight-bearing joints are lined up at address. The top of your spine, insides of your elbows, fronts of your knee caps, and balls of your feet should be aligned vertically. This promotes good balance and posture during the swing. Give it a try next time you hit some golf shots. At address, picture yourself standing on a balance beam. To prevent yourself from falling off, you have to balance out these joints. Leaning too far back (on your heels) or too far forward (on your toes) will tip you off the beam. Struggling with your game? email [email protected] for free advice. PERTON GARDENING CLUB AUGUST IN THE GARDEN

Tall dhalias and chrysanthemums should be staked and the stems should be tied in. For larger flowers remove the side flower buds and weak side stems. Dead head flowers to encourage further blooms and pick sweetpeas to ensure continuity of flowers.Weed regularly and mulch and water as necessary. If you are going away water plants thoroughly before leaving and add an additional layer of mulching materials.Harvest all fruit and vegetables as they mature. Lift onions and shallots, use immediately any that are soft, but ripen others in a sunny position for storage and later use.Plant winter vegetables such as brussel sprouts, cabbage and purple sprouting broccoli in their final positions, firm in well and water thoroughly.Pinch out tips of outdoor tomato plants to encourage fruits to ripen. Continue to trim and prune hedges and lightly trim lavender bushes.Prune climbing and rambling roses that have finished flowering and give all roses a dressing of potash to help ripen the stems. Take half ripe cuttings of heathers, buddleia, berberis, cotoneaster, lavender and santolina, keep them well watered. At the end of the month make the first plantings of narcissus and daffoldil bulbs. Thursday 23rd August This evening, our last outdoor visit of the season is to the garden of Mr. and Mrs. Bailey at Waterdale, Compton. Meet at Perton Civic Centre car park at 6.30pm

Baby Portrait PartiesHi, I’m Claire from Baby Portrait Parties. I’d like to let you know a little bit more about myself and what I do. I am a mummy to two lovely children Isla and Jude and live locally in Tettenhall Wood. I have a BA Hons in Photography and run a business providing studio photography to families at affordable prices.

If you are interested in having photographs taken I have several options to suit different budgets. My aim is to make photography accessible to all!

You can book a session on one of my mini shoots. I recommend this if you want a few photographs of your baby/child. I do three of these a year and details are posted on my facebook page – 'Baby Portrait Parties in South Staffs'

If you would like a good variety of photographs and poses with the all the family I recommend booking a party. A party is a great way to get friends and family together and all have your photographs taken.

Or book a private sitting, I recommend these if you are pregnant or have a new baby and want lots of time and space. I also sell vouchers for these, which make a lovely gift for mums-to-be.

I also do Birthday Portrait Parties, Bump Portrait Parties, cake smashes and take bookings from registered childcare facilities.

Please contact me for more details

A Word From Your MPIn my last article for Perton Pages I mentioned that my overriding memory of the Queens Diamond Jubilee festivities was likely to be the feeling of being absolutely soaked to the bone by the relentless rain. I have to say that 2012 really does seem to have been one of the most depressing summers ever on the weather front but as I write this the weather forecasters have promised that there is sun on the horizon and that we may get a short summer soon.

I was in Perton recently to visit residents who have sadly been left devastated by the flooding which has been a distressing consequence of this endless bad weather. I have been in close contact with Severn Trent and South Staffordshire District Council and there will be a meeting for residents to air their concerns soon and hopefully we can see some proper action taken in this area to avoid another repeat.

At last we have some news on the home to school transport from Perton to Codsall Community High School front. Following our march earlier this year I met with Councillor Liz Staples and Andrew Marsden at Staffordshire County Council to discuss the matter and bring up the concerns that parents in Perton have been raising with me.

I was delighted to hear from the County Council that they are seeking views on a pilot scheme that would give students the option of paying daily fares to travel on the school buses. This would be in addition to being able to buy a spare seat under the current Temporary Vacant Seat Scheme or paying daily fares to travel on the school buses.

While all this sounds quite complicated it means in reality that the maximum cost of travel to school would be £380 per year rather than the £500 that the travel currently costs. I appreciate that the battle is not won but it is nice to see that the price has at least been reduced. Councillor David Bilson and I are going to continue to push the matter with the Council to make sure that in the end we get free and safe transport to Codsall High School.

If there is any other issue that you would like me to look into please do not hesitate to contact me as I would be very happy to see if I can be of assistance. I hope that by the next edition the rain is a distant memory.

To contact me about this or any other matter call 01902 701479 or 0207 219 7150

Royal British Legion Poppy AppealThe Royal British Legion is the custodian of Remembrance for the nation they also care for the welfare of all currently serving and all ex service personnel.

With the current conflict in Afghanistan and the recent conflicts in Iraq and Bosnia the need has never been greater. The legion spends over 100 million pounds a year caring for Remembrance and in looking after our wounded troops. They have recently opened four Personal Recovery Centres as well as a Battle Back Centre at Lilleshall.

The poppy appeal is naturally the main source of raising revenue for this most worthwhile of needs. In my time as Poppy appeal organizer for Perton you have all been most generous in your donations.

Whilst I am sure the Legion is most grateful for the sums raised so far what I most need is more volunteers so we can build on the achievements so far.

I have the opportunity to have collectors INSIDE Sainsbury`s store during the week of 5th to 10th November so if you can spare a couple of hours during this time to help the appeal I would be most grateful.

If you are interested in Membership of the Royal British Legion which is open to all or require any further information please do not hesitate to get in touch,

Many Thanks
