Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) Out mandates are being planned and implemented worldwide, affecting almost all aircraft operators. In the National Airspace System (NAS), the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has mandated ADS-B Out by January 1, 2020. Deployment in Europe is underway via the Single European Sky (SES) initiative. You will be affected if you fly in any of these regions: Australia, Canada, Europe, Hong Kong, Singapore, USA, Taiwan and Vietnam.

Our Satellite-Based Augmentation System (SBAS)-FMS is TSO-C146c approved, and therefore, qualifies as the ARINC 743A position source required for ADS-B Out compliance.

In addition to serving as the required navigation component of the ADS-B Out solution, the SBAS-FMS has extensive interface capability. It easily interfaces with existing and newly installed ADS-B transponders including the popular Honeywell RCZ-8XX Series and Rockwell Collins TDR- 94(D).

An LPV, or Localizer Performance with Vertical Guid-ance, approach is the highest precision GPS aviation instrument approach currently available without specialized aircrew training requirements. LPV approaches are designed to provide 16 meter hori-zontal accuracy and 20 meter vertical accuracy 95% of the time.

LPV approach procedures take advantage of the precision of SBAS GPS for both lateral and vertical guidance during the approach segment. LPV approach capability provides you with ILS-like guidance down to near CAT I ILS minimums (as low as 200-feet with 1/2-mile visibility). Use of these procedures alleviates airspace congestion, saves fuel and improves safety.

SBAS-FMS supports LPV approaches, meeting strin-gent internal monitoring requirements to provide guidance to any of the MDA levels available for RNAV (GPS) approach guidance.

The number of LPV approaches is growing, especially in Europe. For access to new destinations served by LPV, equip today.

Universal Avionics products bring significant benefits to your operations with

Return on Investment (ROI) via fuel savings, time savings and divert reduction.

With the latest advancements in avionics technology, you will realize increased

reliability, maintenance cost savings and less downtime.

Required Navigation Performance (RNP) and Area Navigation (RNAV) are key aspects of all airspace modernization programs. Performance-Based Navi-gation (PBN) is proven to save fuel, relieve congestion and reduce delays at many airports, domestic and international. Today, PBN leverages the technologies of traditional GPS, augmented GPS systems like Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS) and European Geostationary Navigation Overlay System (EGNOS), and Ground Based Augmentation Systems (GBAS).

We are the technology leader in both RNAV and RNP. The Universal Avionics SBAS-FMS meets emerg-ing RNP/Actual Navigation Performance (ANP) airspace operational requirements around the world, including European Basic-RNAV (B-RNAV) and Precision-RNAV (P-RNAV).

In addition to offering ACARS functionality and a FANS/CPDLC solution, the UniLink UL-800/801 CMU also provides Airline-specific functionalities used to streamline operations. The available AOC Databases provide the following uplink functions through the services of AeroData, Inc.:

•Performance/Weight & Balance: Provides access to request view and print takeoff and landing data

•Takeoff (GTOW) Data Request: Allows basic takeoff data to be requested

•Takeoff (Loadsheet) Data Request: Allows expanded takeoff data to be requested (in conjunction with the Takeoff Conditions screen)

•Takeoff Data Response: Displays received takeoff data

•Landing Data Request: Allows landing data to be requested (via the Landing Conditions screen)

•Landing Data Response: Displays received landing data

You rely on your navigation databases every day. Put an end to your database limitations with our SBAS-FMS, and experience reliable subscription services.

One of the key benefits of the Universal Avionics SBAS-FMS is its large database memory. The SBAS-FMS utilizes four databases:

•Navigation: Update subscriptions are available in worldwide and regional coverage areas •Pilot-Defined: Saves substantial time and offers convenience by eliminating manual entry of new flight plans or waypoints on every trip

•Company Routes: Eliminates the time required to enter the flight plan or waypoints for commonly flown routes

•Advanced Performance: Obtain Climb/Cruise and Take-Off and Landing Data (TOLD) for the aircraft, reducing the amount of time to calculate and lookup the speeds and runway requirements for a vast array of possibilities for take-off and landing

Navigation database subscription service for all FMS Software Control Number (SCN) operators is available directly from Universal Avionics or Navtech.

Today, use of Controller-Pilot Data Link Communi-cations (CPDLC) supplements traditional voice over VHF and HF radio frequencies, and frees up voice radio channels in many parts of the world. It is espe-cially valuable in areas with spotty radar coverage, where talk-overs or static impede the voice channel. The text message-based data link system has been described as a ‘communications life-support’ by pilots who operate in remote areas not covered by radar. CPDLC provides a link to the control center for clearances and route changes or even to declare/rescind emergency. It’s available and in use today.

Combined with the Universal Avionics SBAS-FMS, the UniLink® UL-800/801 Communications Manage-ment Unit (CMU) provides an opportunity to take full advantage of the safety and efficiency benefits that advanced data link capabilities offer.

“This (UNS-1Ew FMS) enables us to fly direct to our desti-

nation instead of following an airway. Even if that lessens

the trip by only 20 miles, the savings in fuel on 400 flights

a day over the course of one year adds up to millions.”

– Perry Solmonson Director Flight Operations Standards and Training, Horizon Airlines

“Unlike scheduled airlines which may cancel flights due to

weather, we need to make every flight happen or workers are

left in the camps away from their families, shortening their

time at home, and extending overtime hours which can add

substantially to our labor costs. Since we started operating

our aircraft with Universal’s SBAS-FMSs, we reduce our flight

delays and missed approaches by at least 20%.”

– Guylain Boutin Chief Pilot, West Wind Aviation
