TRANSCRIPT
The Word of God for Today:
In the conclusion of his gospel Luke recaps some of his favourite themes. Luke had begun by calling his gospel 'a
narrative of the events that have been fulfilled among us' (1:1); he concludes by having Jesus indicate that his
suffering, death, and resurrection have fulfilled God's plan,
as 'it is written'. The fulfilment of past promises proves the reliability of his predictions for the future, namely, the
preaching of the gospel to all nations and the coming of the Holy Spirit.
Similarly, the ministry of John the Baptist began with his
'proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins' (Luke 3:3). Jesus continued this theme of John's
preaching ('I have not come to call the righteous to
repentance but sinners' 5:32) and now he sends his disciples to preach 'repentance for the forgiveness of
sins' (24:47).
The disciples' mission will proceed orderly: it will begin in Jerusalem and extend to all nations. This reflects Luke's
assurance that the promises of God to the Jews have not
been abandoned but fulfilled; and once fulfilled, the good news of salvation can reach out to others as well. (Taken
from Liturgia)
Offertory Giving. Your financial support of priest and parish is very important and appreciated. All who receive
an income are welcome to participate. If you would like to be one of this parish’s Planned Givers please contact the
parish office or mention it to me. Planned giving can be
done by using envelopes or by Direct Debit or Credit Card. Forms are available at our parish churches.
The Parish Feastival is not far away. The week, including
the solemnities of Holy Trinity and Corpus Christi (June 16—23), is set aside to celebrate the many facets of parish life,
in particular our multi-cultural identity. We begin and end
the octave with an acknowledgement of the multi-cultural nature of our parish congregations at Holy Trinity, Banyo
and Corpus Christi, Nundah. The acknowledgement takes the form of a Procession of the Nations at the beginning of
the 7.30 am Mass at Holy Trinity church on Holy Trinity Sunday (June 16) and at the beginning of the 9.30 am Mass
at Corpus Christi church on Corpus Christi Sunday (June
23). If you would like to take part in either or both of the processions would you put your name and country of origin
on the form at our churches so that an image of your flag can be prepared for the processions.
A Parish Leadership Development Day is to be held on
June 8th with the focus on the ‘Plenary Council – Themes
emerging from the Listening and Dialogue Encounters’. The day commences at 9am with a presentation from Lana
Turvey-Collins, the Plenary Council 2020 Facilitator;
Archbishop Mark Coleridge will also speak. The day finishes
at 3pm. The venue is The O’Shea Centre, Wilston – to register go to https://ebab.weebly.com/. This would be an
excellent way to follow up on the work many did in preparing the submissions that were submitted before Ash
Wednesday. It would be an excellent way for lay Catholics
to be part of shaping the future of our Australian Catholic Church.
RCIA Do you know someone who might be interested in
becoming a Catholic? There is an Information Night planned for Tuesday June 4 in Holy Trinity Church, Banyo
commencing at 7.00 pm.

ongoing commitment to the Tri-Diocesan Covenant of Understanding signed 10 years ago. “Rejoicing in the Holy
Spirit….” The signatories to the covenant 10 years ago were The Most Reverends Phillip Aspinall (Anglican), John
Bathersby (Brisbane), and William Morris (Toowoomba).

Australian Catholic Bishops’ Conference News
Professional Standards and Safeguarding.
The Conference devoted a number of sessions of the Plenary Meeting to the issues of professional standards and
safeguarding. The Conference considered and approved the National Catholic Safeguarding Standards, which have
been developed by Catholic Professional Standards Ltd
(CPSL) in line with the Child Safe Standards recommended by the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to
Child Sexual Abuse. It was noted that CPSL is due to conduct audits of a number of dioceses, in relation to those
Standards, in the coming months.
Plenary Council. The Bishops received an update on the
completion of the Listening and Dialogue phase of the Plenary Council, during which 17,457 submissions were
received on behalf of more than 222,000 people. Quantitative and qualitative analysis of the submissions will
help inform the development of National Themes for
Discernment, to be announced at Pentecost (June 9). Every Easter Blessing,
Fr Bernie

That priests, through the modesty and humility of their lives, commit themselves actively to a
solidarity with those who are most poor.

Jesus.
Stewardship “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.” (Revelations 22:13) This is a reminder of how we should live our lives 24 hours a day, 7 days a week – putting God first in all that we do. Not
only when I am at Mass and parish activities, but when I am in the world, at work or at school. Living gratefully and
generously is a lifestyle; it should influence how I make all
my daily decisions.
