Last weekend Clayton OBrien from Blackallcompeted in the Professional Bull Riders WorldChallenge at the Gold Coast Convention Centre. The event consisted of two stages, the rst being
Australia versus the Rest of the World and thesecond on the following night, the 2009 PBR worldchallenge. The Friday night First Blood Friday saw Clayton,
as a member of the team of the top ten bull riders inAustralia, competing against ten international bullriders including riders from Canada, America, Braziland New Zealand.
On Saturday night, ten of the PBRs best internationalbull riders went up against a eld of the thirty topAustralian qualiers from the Bundaberg Rum PBRTouring Pro series, each of them riding for a piece
of the $50,000 prize money and the opportunity totake home the event buckle.
Having started bull riding casually with some of hisfriends in year 9 at school, Clayton says that he hasjust stuck with it.
It is something that I really enjoy doing. He had a shoulder reconstruction in 2006, and
has had many broken ribs, arms and legs in his bullriding career.
But it has never discouraged him from riding.
If you get bucked off, the only thing to do is to getstraight back on, Clayton said.
He trains when he can nd time, and goes runningand to the gym to keep t.
I just want to ride and have a good time doing it.Bomber and Louise Baillie of Baillie Contracting
were also involved in the Gold Coast PBR event, takingseven of their own bulls down for the competition. They came away with the title for the best bucking
bull with Wild Thing.

Compared to city kids, countrykids are quite often forgottenabout, and we have been luckyto have this money available tospend on such a wide range ofresources.
I like to be able to offersomething different; to give thechildren the opportunity to haveaccess to things that they may not

A Professor of Climate Change at AdelaideUniversity thinks we should halve Australiasdomestic ruminant numbers within twoyears.
When we have removed our cattle sheep andgoats, when water buy-back has diverted ourirrigation water to Environmental Flows, and
when Australia is covered by regrowth scrub, carbon credit forests, ethanol crop farms, protected remnant vegetation, Wilderness No-Go areas, National Parks, aboriginal reserves,World Heritage Areas, marine parks and WildRivers Reserves - I have just one question?
What are we, and the world, going to eat?
