Bournemouth

Bournemouth is a holiday town with a reputation for being sophisticated and vibrant. The town is a regional centre for commerce, with its own university, and is a unique and popular place in which to live and study throughout the year. There is lively nightlife with a wide range of quality entertainment, including cinemas, concerts, theatres, night clubs, bars and restaurants. Our shops cater for all tastes. Bournemouth is also famous for its 7 miles of sandy beaches, beautiful parks and gardens, and its cosmopolitan atmosphere. There is also easy access to many regional cultural attractions. Bournemouth International Airport has daily flights to numerous UK and European destinations and there are daily sea ferries from Poole to France, Spain and the Channel Islands.

Surrounding Area

The beautiful coastal area to the east and west of Bournemouth is a designated World Heritage Site. To the west of Bournemouth lies the ancient port of Poole, situated within a vast natural harbour. Poole provides access to wildlife, deserted islands and beautiful landscapes.

Travel Details

Bournemouth is less than 2 hours travelling time from London by coach, train or car. On their first morning at BBSI, students are welcomed to the School and are provided with an appreciation of local services and amenities. Transport facilities are explained, including those bus routes between BBSI and the residential areas where our homestay accommodation is located. Most bus journeys in and around Bournemouth take between 10 and 20 minutes.

Transfer to Bournemouth

We offer a transfer service from airports, seaports, and rail and coach stations to take students directly to their accommodation.

While you study in Bournemouth, it is important that you are comfortable in your domestic environment, that you mix with as many native-speakers of English as possible, and absorb the local culture in your everyday activities. BBSI therefore offers various accommodation options to suit your personal requirements, including homestay accommodation, hotel and guest house accommodation and residential facilities.

Accommodation

A popular tourist resort, Bournemouth offers a wide choice of accommodation. BBSI selects only quality accommodation that complies with the English UK Homestay Charter and Accreditation UK Guidelines.

Standard Homestay. One of the best ways to ‘acquire’ the English language outside the classroom and to experience the British culture is to live with a British family. BBSI homestay accommodation includes a comfortable single study/bedroom, and is available on a part-board basis (breakfast and evening meal Monday-Friday, with full-board facilities (all meals) at weekends), or on a bed and breakfast or self-catering basis.

Executive Homestay. The executive homestay option provides accommodation in a high-quality home in an exclusive residential area, with study/bedrooms of above-average size and with en-suite/private bathroom facilities. Moreover, many of our executive rooms have television and Internet connection included.

Residential. BBSI provides a range of residential accommodation on a self-catering, room only or bedand breakfast basis. Fees will vary according to location and room type. Full details are on our website.

Welfare Facilities

BBSI staff have developed a unique understanding of international students, and we recognise that individuals have widely different welfare and cultural needs. Our policy is to provide and maintain a safe and healthy environment for study.
