ANIMATION PLAYGROUND
JULY 20Optical ToysDating as far back as 100 BC, optical toys use the fundamental theories which make animation “work.” We’ll create three variations of the optical toy which we can see working before our very eyes!
JULY 21Flip BooksFlip books are the grandfather of the techniques animators use in the movie industry today. They are easy and cheap to make as well as super fun!
JULY 22Paper ShapesCutout paper shapes under the camera is one of the easiest ways to really understand making your picture look how you want it to. Clip and cut to your heart’s desires to create an animated scene out of paper.
JULY 23Clay on GlassAs an incredible variation on paint on glass, clay on glass allows the animator the flexibility to create super cool images to manipulate and morph into other scenes under the camera.
Animation Playgound is a series of hands-on learning workshops designed for people of all ages. Learn a new animation technique every day followed by “play time” to explore how each medium can be manipulated on the frame by frame level. We cover basic to intermediate concepts of animation so you’ll leave with the understanding of how to make something look “alive.”
Mad Scientists always welcome!

JULY 28Scratch & Paint On FilmWe switch our thinking to a vertical strip of film to either draw on, scratch image off, or wash away.
JULY 29PixilationIn pixilation we get to play actor and move our bodies frame by frame so we are the ones getting animated! Aside from how fun it is, there are tons of really cool tricks and illusions a person can do!
JULY 30Animating with LightUsing flashlights, colored light wands, finger lasers, and more, we are able to create “moving light” where we combine photography play with animation.

The Adult Education, GED, and English Language Acquisition programs provide instruction that helps individuals acquire the academic skills necessary for employment or admission to college and occupational or training programs. Anyone over 18 years of age or older who is not enrolled in another school is eligible for enrollment. Please call 308.635.6769 regarding special enrollment requirements for 16- and 17-year-olds. Some students may wish to work on all the subjects necessary to take the GED tests and others may only need to improve skills, such as math or reading, to improve their employment opportunities.
