Weekly Words from

The Rock

Last week, I provided ten statements focusing on quotes from Jesus Christ. In providing various quotes, I left a word/words missing. Your work was to figure out which word/words were missing. To help, I provided the Scripture passage where the quote is found. Let us see how you did concentrating on the Sermon on the Mount.

1. Matthew 7:5: You hypocrite, remove the ________ ________ from your eye first; then you will see clearly to remove the ________ from your brother’s eye. Answer: wooden beam, splinter2. Matthew 7:7: _____ and it will be given to you. Answer: Ask3. Matthew 7:7: _____ and you will find. Answer: Seek4. Matthew 7:7: _____ and the door will be opened to you. Answer: Knock5. Matthew 7:12: Do to others whatever you would have them do to you. This is the ______ and the ________. Answer: law, prophets6. Matthew 7:13: Enter through the ______ gate… Answer: narrow7: Matthew 7:21: Not everyone who says to me ________, ______, will enter the kingdom of heaven. Answer: Lord, Lord8. Answer: sand10: Matthew 7:28: When Jesus finished these words, the crowds were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as one having ______, and not as their scribes. Answer: authority

Let us try the same exercise with our focus being on the Bread of Life discourse (John 6).

1. John 6:1-2: After this, Jesus went across the Sea of Galilee (of Tiberias). A large crowd followed him, because they saw the ______ he was performing on the ______. 2. John 6:3: Jesus went up on the ______, and there sat down with his disciples.3. John 6:5: When Jesus raised his eyes and saw that a large crowd was coming he said to _______, “Where can we buy enough food for them to eat?”4. John 6:7: ______ answered him, “______ _______ ______ wages worth of food would not be enough for each of them to have a little.”5. John 6:8: One of his disciples, _______, the brother of Simon Peter, said to him,…6: John 6:9: “There is a boy here who has ______ barley loaves and ______ fish; but what good are they for so many?”7: John 6:10: Jesus said, “Have the people ______.”8: John 6:10: So the men reclined, about _______ thousand in number.9. John 6:11: Then Jesus took the loaves, ______ _______, and distributed them to those who were reclining, and also as much of the ______ as they wanted.10: John 6:12-13: When they had had their fill, he (Jesus) said to his disciples, “Gather the fragments left over, so that nothing will be wasted.” So they collected them, and filled ______ wicker baskets with fragments….

Good luck! I will provide the answers next week.

Holy Humor How is it that something so simple can say so much.

Tony Alonso Who is He?

There will be No School on Monday, January 20th in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

The weekly all school Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 21st at 9:15 am.

The monthly HERO assembly will be held on Tuesday, January 21st at 1:20 pm

January 26th-February 1st is Catholic Schools Week. We celebrate the legacy handed on to us through the Sisters of St. Francis and the Rochester Catholic parishes.

Many of you are asking exactly who “is” Tony Alonso? While you may not know the name, you certainly know him to hear him…

Here is just a small sample of Tony’s compositions that have been done at Resurrection:Fresh as the Morning; I Will Praise You, Lord; Sprinkling Rite: Springs of Water; Easter Vigil Exsultet; Easter Alleluia…

…and, most familiar…Mass of Joy and Peace. The Gloria, Alleluia, Holy, etc. that we are singing at Resurrection RIGHT NOW were composed by Tony!

In addition to being an accomplished composer, he is also a noted theologian, having recently completed his doctoral work at Emory University.

Finally, Tony is a “hometown” guy! He spent many of his adolescent years in Austin, MN and was active in his parish’s music ministry.

Has this convinced you yet? Tickets for Tony’s concert on January 31st at 7pm, In Endless Song, are available NOW! Simply stop into the Parish Office, send me an email, or call today to secure yours!

Grades 1-5: Faith formation classes do not meet this week due to Martin Luther King Jr. Day. We will meet again on Monday, January 27th for grades 1-5. First Communion: Families of children who will be preparing for First Communion will have a Parent Meeting on Monday, January 20th at 6:30pm in Fr. Zenk Hall. Only one parent/guardian needs to attend this meeting. If you have any questions before the meeting, please contact me.Virtues in Practice: January’s virtue is fortitude and the children in Grades 3-5 are learning about St. Joan of Arc. She lived in France between 1412-1431 and her feast day is May 30th. St. Joan of Arc was born a simple peasant. As a young girl she began hearing the voices of St. Margaret, St. Catherine of Alexandria, and St. Michael the Archangel. The voices began telling her to go to the man born to be King of France and lead the army to re-conquer his kingdom. Many people thought she was crazy, andthat it was inappropriate for a young girl to dress in armor like a man. But her faith soon changed their hearts. She demanded that everyone in the army lead lives of purity so that God could work through them and though she was very afraid, she led them into battle with a flag that said, “Jesus, Maria.” St. Joan of Arc was brave and strong in the face of trials. Find out more about St. Joan of Arc in next week’s bulletin. St. Joan of Arc, pray for us! Amen.

Sunday School: Reminder no Sunday School MLK weekend. See you again on Jan. 26th Open Door Grades 6-10: Check out the updated bulletin board in the Father Zenk hallway with all the upcoming winter and summer 2020 events!
