FORTNIGHTLY NEWSLETTER – THURSDAY 29TH MARCH

Dear Parents and Carers,

We celebrate the wonderful contribution Betty Bellman has made to Belgrave South Primary School. Betty has supervised our school crossing for almost 15 years and arguably fulfils one of the most important jobs in our school community – making sure that our students and parents have safe passage to school. Betty is the first person to greet our children and families each day, her interactions characterised by care and concern and always with a smile and a laugh. On many occasions she has provided helpful advice to our students and has made sure that they start the day knowing that there are people at school who care about them. Her calm and collected manner could always be counted on in even in the coldest and wettest weather. Many generations of children have benefitted from her care as they have moved through our school. I would like to thank Betty on behalf of our entire school community for her valuable contribution to our school and students. We wish her a happy retired life full of joy and happiness and we hope that she comes back to visit us from time to time. Betty has written a letter to all our students and parents:

To the Principal of Belgrave South Primary and all the people associated with the school,

Folks this is a letter to you all; the Principal, Teachers, staff, parents, grandparents and all the children for making my involvement in this role such a memorable experience.

To all the families I have met over the almost fifteen years I thank you, to all the children I have met I thank them. All the lovely chats, the laughter, the smiles, the hugs and, occasionally, a little sadness that has made this enjoyable and I thank you all again.

I have seen over the years some events on the road with some motorists and people doing some not so intelligent things but fortunately we have not had any serious incidents, peoples parking skills often amaze me as does the lack of thought for others from time to time but we have managed.

I am retiring to the house we have in the country at the end of this term so when school resumes after the break there will be a new crossing supervisor that I am sure will have the same outlook to safety and precaution as I have had.

To conclude I thank everybody that I have had the good fortune to meet and I wish everybody the very best for now and the future in the years to come.

School Fete The Stax-A-Fun fete has become a major event not only on our school calendar but for our whole community. We had many hard-working parents and staff on site until well after 10:00pm on Friday and back again before 7:00am on Saturday morning making sure that everything was in place. Despite a very soggy start, the community came in droves to support the event and our school. The rain had cleared by 3 o’clock and the sun shone through and so to did the spirit of the Belgrave South which ensured that once again all could share in the enjoyment of the annual Stax-A-Fun Fete. As you can imagine, organising a fete is a major project and requires meticulous planning, organisation and attention to detail. I acknowledge the incredible efforts of the fete committee and thank them for the countless hours that they have invested to ensure that this years fete was even bigger and better than previous years. Our committee have seen to the thousands of necessary tasks with skill that have created such a wonderful event. We are indebted to our amazing stall captains, staff, volunteers, sponsors, and many, many supporters. This dedicated group of people have overseen a major contribution to our fundraising efforts and, for that, I thank them very much. Extra special thanks must go to our Staxafun Coordinator, Dave Vandoorn. Dave has held the role of Fete coordinator for five years and has worked with a wonderful crew of people. Over this time, they have raised in excess of $120,000 which has been used to improve school facilities, develop learning spaces and improve our school grounds. Dave has decided to step down from the coordination role and leaves big shoes to fill. On behalf of Belgrave South Primary School, I would like to thank him for his commitment to our school and his massive contribution to developing our community. I am sure we will see Dave looking relaxed at next years fete. I would also like to acknowledge the extraordinary efforts of Carol Ould and Lynn Bok for calmly overseeing the preparations necessary with our community, from supporting stall captains to volunteer rosters, donations to doughnuts – they are amazing members of our team. I thank them for all the time that they have invested in our fete this year. Our wonderful sponsors and supporting businesses are listed overleaf.
