Choose a passage that is large or full of a lot of info (a big paragraph)
Don’t choose a passage that is already short and easy to understand

Read the passage a few times
Ask yourself “What is the essence of this passage?” or “What is this passage saying?”

Change Key vocabulary Replace $25 words
Get rid of fluff Words or phrases that
can be omitted w/o affecting the meaning of the passage
Keep names, dates, places or other info. that is important to the overall meaning of the passage

Do not use the same combination of words as in the original text
