Twenty of those years were spent as the University’s first sports information director. “This is a fantastic idea that is becoming a reality. Falcons, let’s all get behind the BGSU Athletics Walk of Fame & History and the Cochrane Cunningham Archive and Museum, doing what it takes to support and grow it. It is our tradition from all the great years of all the sports in one place. It does not get any better than that … count me in.”

— Phil ViIlapiano ‘71, BGSU Athletics Hall of Famer and 4-time Pro Bowler

“Mickey Cochrane and Don Cunningham recognized the importance of Bowling Green State University history and have honored many sports and athletes, including women’s basketball. By collecting memorabilia, they have kept the traditions of BGSU alive for fans today and for future Falcons. I truly appreciate what they have accomplished and want to recognize them for all their hard work and dedication.”

— Jackie (Motycka) Mossing ’89, BGSU Athletics Hall of Famer and second all-time leading scorer in basketball

“The history of BG Athletics is long and diverse. The prowess of so many Falcon student-athletes is something to be proud of. Certainly the athletes themselves are proud of their accomplishments as Falcons, and BG should remember them by preserving their legacy.”

— Nate Thurmond ’63, BGSU Athletics Hall of Famer and one of the NBA’s “50 Greatest Players”

“I remember the first time I saw the museum at Anderson Arena. I was captivated by the bits and pieces of the University’s athletic history, including uniforms, pictures, brochures, equipment and trophies. It was a fascinating array of the objects that define our past, and I thought more people should have the chance to see it, to enjoy it, to experience it.”

— Dave Wottle ’73, BGSU Athletics Hall of Famer and Olympic gold medalist in the 800 meter

“Understanding our athletic history is a prerequisite for true appreciation of our teams and student-athletes. The BGSU Athletics Walk of Fame & History, and the Cochrane Cunningham Archive and Museum, are essential in not only preserving Bowling Green’s rich athletic history but in sustaining and guiding us toward athletic excellence now and in the future.”

— George McPhee ‘82, BGSU Athletics Hall of Famer, Hobey Baker Award winner and general manager of the Washington Capitals

A new effort is now underway to make the Cochrane Cunningham Archive and Museum a reality in the Stroh Center. Initiated by the lacrosse alumni group and

BGSU Athletics, the goal is to ensure the project is funded in a way that fully preserves and expands the voluntary work done by Mickey Cochrane and Don Cunningham over the past three decades. As an integral part of a broader BGSU Athletics Walk of Fame & History in the Stroh Center, the Archive and Museum will bring BGSU’s rich sports history to life for fans as well as prospective students and student-athletes, and their families. This new, state-of-the-art space will serve as an attractive and compelling “front porch” that reflects well on our current intercollegiate athletics programs and the University as a whole.

Join a growing number of the Falcon Faithful who have pledged their support to create and sustain the BGSU Athletics Walk of Fame & History and the

Cochrane Cunningham Archive and Museum in the Stroh Center.

Please fill out pledge card and send back using the return envelope.

A HISTORy AND TRADITION WORTH SAVINGThe pursuit to save all things Falcon began in 1985 after Cochrane and Cunningham retired from their respective full-time duties at the University. All kinds of items emerged from people across campus and around the country.

The two created a “museum” in a small space within Memorial Hall where they began showcasing photographs, tattered news articles, letter jackets and anything else they could get their hands on tied to Athletics. More than just a display of memorabilia, these staunch Falcons pursued the stories associated with most of these artifacts. Putting in countless hours interviewing, researching and documenting — on a purely volunteer basis — they did the hard work needed to preserve the 100-year history of BGSU sports.

BUILDING ON A SOLID FOUNDATIONThe few display cabinets in the current Hall of Fame Area hold only a fraction of the mementos and documentation already amassed, with much more to come as great teams, individuals and their accomplishments continue to shape our history. Please consider joining a growing number of the Falcon Faithful who have pledged their support.

The current target is $500,000 to consolidate, properly document and preserve artifacts from BGSU Athletics’ storied history, while also creating more interactive and accessible displays for Falcon fans and University guests to explore. Demonstrating truly impressive individual and collective generosity, the lacrosse alumni group has launched the project with a gift in excess of $150,000.

Now, your gift — large or small — will build on this great momentum, making a difference as we pull together to preserve and display BGSU’s greatest sports memories.

I am excited about the strong outpouring of support we’ve seen to collect, preserve and display Falcon Athletics’ stellar history in a first-class manner. I believe the BGSU Athletics Walk of Fame & History, and the Cochrane Cunningham Archive and Museum, will serve as a rallying point for the entire University as we “honor the past and create the future.”

— Chris Kingston, Director of Intercollegiate Athletics
