DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER APPLICATIONS

The Government of Tamilnadu established the Bharathiar

University at Coimbatore in February, 1982. The University

named after the great national poet Subramanian Bharathi

is enshrined with the motto “Educate to Elevate”. In the

University, every effort is harnessed to realize his dream of

making “Educational Institutions as Temples of Learning”.

It is the aim of the University to participate in the task of

inculcating necessary knowledge, skills, creative attitudes

and values among the youth of the country to contribute

more effectively towards establishing an equitable, social

and economic order and secular ideal of our Nation. As of

now, the University has 122 affiliated colleges and 33

Research Institutes of the State and Central Governments,

which are recognized by this University for research

purpose. And all these institutions cater to the educational

needs of more than 2,00,000 students and research

scholars.

The Department of Computer Applications of Bharathiar

University is imparting knowledge in the areas of

Computer Applications to students by class room based

teaching, practical sessions in the computing lab, course

work, record work, seminar and project work. The

Department has its roots from the year 1985 and it is one

of the well known departments in the field of computer

applications education and computer science research.

The Department emphasizes a shift from mass teaching to

personalized instruction, single learning to multiple

learning, rigid daily programme to flexible schedules,

training in formal skills and knowledge, isolated contents

to interrelated, memorial answers to case-study based

problem solving. The thrust areas of research in the

Department of Computer Applications are Integrated Data

Modelling, Concurrent Engineering Information Systems,

Knowledge Management, Soft Computing, Data Mining,

Bio-inspired Computing, Image Processing, Data Analytics,

Software Engineering and Big Data. Department conducts

M.C.A., M.C.A.(Lateral), M.Sc. Data Analytics, M.Phil.

Computer Science and Ph.D. Computer Science

programmes.

AUGMENTED REALITY

Augmented reality (AR) is the real time use of information

in the form of text, graphics, audio and other virtual

enhancements integrated with real world objects. It is

predicted that by 2021, AR and virtual reality are expected

to have 215 billion dollars global market. AR is fast

becoming a default part of the devices in our pockets. It

has transformed the way people interact with the

digital world. The creative possibilities of virtual reality

are revolutionizing the entertainment, engineering,

defence and healthcare industries. Several industrial,

standardization and research bodies are currently working

on the development of solutions to fulfill the technological

requirements involved in AR. This seminar will provide

awareness on the basics of AR, applications of AR;

application development life cycle of AR; hardware and

software used in AR; AR tools, libraries and frameworks.

The seminar will be suitable for beginners interested in AR

application development.
