SPORTS AND GAMES IN DEVELOPMENT OF

YOUNG LEADERS

Written by Frank ClementBILD LEADER DSM CENTRE

Sports and games are among things liked by many people in the world,Sports and games are used by the people for making exercise to maintain their bodies beauty, healthy as well as an employment endovour.

Sports and Games can be used to develop young leaders skills,This can be done through different lessons via practising various sports and games.

Among lessons are given in sports and games that are relate to leadership skills: cooperation, descipline, obedient to rules, making preparation before doing a certain action etc,

Through these lessons a person can buildConfidence, players of any sports/games should be cofident inorder to play a particular game on the other hand good leaders should have confidence so as to lead people well and when leaders loose confidence will become weak and this will be difficult to lead the people in a good manner.

Cooperation, among most important things that a player is supposed to have in playing games is cooperate in order to be the winners, Leadership needs a cooperation with others to reach the highest level of accomplishing goals.

Discipline , includes but not limited obeying rules of the game listening to instructions, role modelling and so on . Likewise Leaders must have discipline so as to lead people by the rules of law thus a nation reach the aspired development.

So when these skills are introduced in the mind of young people,it helps them enhance their ability so as to be good leaders. In this case sports and games used as avehicle to import leadership skills.

“Being in this project (BILD) is a great

opportunity because I have had experienced many different things now than before. The project makes me face different groups of people i. e disable, children, women etc. I can now easily face many challenges that may happen because I have learned more to be a good leader.

To be in a BILD PROJECT is all about to be or prepare yourself to become MEN AND

WOMEN FOR OTHERS.”

KELVIN M. MWITADsm BILD Leader,2011

Are you aware that it is against the law for young mothers (Young girls) who are tomorrows leaders to be banned from returning to school once they give birth? UNICEF, along with other organizations, successfully pressured the governments to change their regulations, the new ones introduced in 2009 and adopted in January 2010, encourages schools, to accept teen mothers back into the system.

According to the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training statistics, 28,600 girls left school between 2004 and 2008 because they were pregnant. At the Secondary level, the number are even more shocking: in 2007 one in five girls became pregnant and did not finish school.

The Ministry is developing new guidelines to help teenage mothers return to school. We at BILD thought was useful to help young girls discover their leadership talents and get encouragement to take it as their career for life. Inorder to manage this we arranged training for some girls in secondary schools at Zanaki, Kisutu and Jangwani and trained more than 200 school girls in order to help them be aware of their potentials in leadership and Sports and work hard to achieve their development goals.

This is the role played by BILD Tanzania Project, What are

you doing in your community to help this...take this as a challenge.

Arusha center, has four young leaders who work

with the project. They are known as “BILDS” leaders. The BILD leaders perform their daily activities under supervision of the centre “Mental” whose name is SAMWEL H. MPENZU and the head of the center Mrs. Mercy Rwezaula.

TASKS:

The BILD leaders of at Arusha center perform the following tasks. - Learning course materials and practice with trainers. - To prepare and conduct trainings to the youth from different areas especial in Northern zone. - Working together with secondary schools and colleges, assisting them in the development of competition, Bonanza and also After – school clubs as the main future task of the project. - To keep record of trainings and other activities done by the BILD leaders and trainers during course seminar implementations. - To report our daily activities to the General secretary of National Sports Council. - To monitor and evaluate the program activities at the centre. - To help reach the project goals by training 4000 trainers,4000 young leaders within 3 years time of the project.

During the implementation of the above tasks the following challenges arise:-

It is difficult to get participants of our Trainings who are working/employed e.g. teachers since they ask to be paid.

- Most of participants asking for the project uniforms, lunch and other trainers equipments such as balls and cones. - Less Boy’s participate in our trainings since most of college we train have got huge number of girls than boy’s.

SOLUTION

More explanations are given to the participants who ask for the above sports equipments and project uniform. The best answer is to know that BILD project programs are conducted in volunteering terms due to lack of enough funds.

The same goes to the employees asking for the payments to attend trainings for the factor that BILD project is in volunteerism, but things which can be done by the project is delivering leadership and other skill through sports and games.

OUR GOALS:

BILD Arusha aims at

•Delivering leadership skills training through sports to the young leaders.• To organize and conducting seminars, Bonanzas to the young leaders in the society. • Work with young leaders in schools and colleges and identify potential new Beckwith. • Start the sports clubs with the participant we trained in order to share sports ideas and knowledge in order to develop sports to the young leaders.

GENERAL COMMENTS

Since the BILD project is working with communities, more information to the communities about the project should be provided, through different mass media such as newspaper, radios and TV Program.

The role of young leaders in

making positive changes.

Written by: Mohammed A. MvumbaguBILD Mentor- (Dar es Salaam-Tanzania )

Young people are the mainly potential group with

large number of population in the world and for Tanzania young people take about 50 percent of all the population in the country as shown on the recently National statistics- December 2009.

International policies define young people as an adolescent from the age of 18-25, while Tanzania's national policy defines young people (youth) as from the age of 18-35, which indicates a massive role to play in making positive changes.

The role played by young leaders in making positive changes in the community, national, and International level is on Making decisions, development activities and human resource.

Their participation and involvement has proved success because of their commitment in what they are doing as well as being open minded and easy going group.

With an example of Tanzania and many other African countries, young leaders try to show positive impacts on development this is done through the phenomenon “THINK GLOBALLY and ACT LOCALLY” such as in BILD Project.

In the 21st Century, an era of 'Globalization' through science and technology. Young leaders have a big role to play so as to develop their skills, knowledge and ability on technologies and update themselves on Global Issues in order to be aware and flexible to adopt positive changes for their community development without destructing their culture and customs which are very important for the national identity.

Through this era of Globalization young leaders must have ability to communicate and making networks, learn and share their experience with other communities, enhance other young people and society to volunteer on helping their community to develop, and have an opportunity to practice their skills for poverty alleviation.

YOUNG LEADERS CAN, LET US PLAY OUR PART!.
