Malcolm Harbour MEP,

championed the

introduction of the BIM

amendments

into the Directive.

The review of the EU Public Procurement Directive

has several key stages before it is agreed as

legislation in early summer 2013 by all EU states.

EU Considers following UK and Dutch

leadership by introducing BIM

into public construction projects

On 18th December 2012 the EU voted to table a set

of proposals as part of the review

of the existing EU Public Procurement Directive

which will encourage the progressive

use of building information modelling (‘BIM’) in public

works contracts across member states.

The proposed use of BIM in public works largely

echoes current UK policy while not imposing

strict implementation requirements on national

legislation.
