Georgia has been at the forefront of workforce training for decades, and other states have learned from its

success. Georgia’s Quick Start program, technical colleges and highly-regarded research universities work

closely with business to ensure the highest level of worker readiness.

Quick Start Program

Georgia’s Quick Start program is

internationally recognized as one of the best in the world. For more than 40 years, Quick Start has provided customized workforce training free-of charge to qualified businesses in Georgia. Today, the program is one of the state’s key assets for supporting new and expanding industries. Quick Start delivers training in classrooms, mobile labs or directly on the plant floor.

Quick Start’s advanced manufacturing expertise is indispensable to bioscience manufacturers. Quick Start’s team of training professionals has extensive experience in training, according to current Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), as well as Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and Quality Systems Regulations (QSR).

Each company has unique processes and procedures. In biomanufacturing, jobs require increased sophistication to be performed well. Quick Start has a track record of designing customized training that incorporates such topics as chemistry fundamentals and FDA regulatory practices with process-specific training in aseptic fill and a host of others. (Source: Quick Start)

For more information visit www.GeorgiaQuickStart.org.

Quick Start helps Baxalta (formerly Baxter International)

Quick Start recently opened a $14 million state-of-the-art biotech training facility near the new Baxalta facility, which is scheduled to be fully operational in 2018.

Owned by the state of Georgia and operated by Quick Start, this facility is a key component of the state’s long-term initiative to promote and grow the life sciences industries.

Thus, while the training center will be dedicated to Baxalta for now, it includes space to accommodate the training needs of additional life science companies that might want to locate or expand in Georgia.

“ A key part of ensuring our facility’s success is having the right people on the ground to manufacture our treatments efficiently and effectively. We are grateful to have an industry-leading partner in Georgia Quick Start at our side, who will help ensure this facility adds to our gold-standard in this practice area.”

Exceptional Business Climate

Statutory incentives

Biomedical and pharma manufacturing companies in Georgia are often eligible for a variety of tax credits and sales tax exemptions. The state’s job tax credit program grants credits for job creation that may be applied against the state’s corporate income tax. Other tax credits, including those tied to capital investment, employee training and child care, are also available. See the listing to the right for major tax credit programs and major tax exemptions in Georgia. For detailed information on tax exemptions, credits and other state incentives, please visit the Publications page of SelectGeorgia.com.

right-to-Work State

Georgia is a right-to-work state. Georgia has maintained this status since 1947.

Employment-at-Will State

Georgia has no employment laws that are more stringent or restrictive than those at the federal level. In the absence of a written contract and in compliance with federal employment laws, employers in Georgia are able to exercise their own hiring and dismissal decisions; state laws make no provisions for wrongful discharge.

rapid Permitting and Site availability

One-Stop Permitting: Georgia offers a consolidated state environmental program with delegated authority from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for issuance and enforcement of federal permits. The Georgia Department of Natural Resources issues or denies all permits required by state and federal environmental protection legislation when a facility is being located in the state. One-stop permitting enables prospective

industries to obtain expedited required permits.

Payroll incentives

Companies in Georgia are often eligible for a variety of tax credits and sales tax exemptions. The state’s job tax credit program grants credits for job creation that may be applied against the state’s corporate income tax. For companies creating 50 or more high-paying jobs, defined as having wages above the local average wage rate, tax credits may be applied against payroll withholding liabilities.

Georgia has the nation’s no. 1 business climate.

Georgia is a pro-business state. An aggressive incentives program, favorable tax rates, favorable conditions for employers and programs to accelerate the permitting and development process make Georgia the right place to start and grow a business.
