SPIRITUALITY Spirituality Matters "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the law?... Jesus said, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all you soul, and with all your mind." God in his Gospel is reminding us of the importance of priorities. Often we get our priorities muddled up and life can get messy. God assures that if we put Him first in our lives, He will be our refuge, strength and the love that carries us through all circumstances of life.
INTRODUCTION
This week, as a school community we celebrated the Feast of All Saints Day 1st November 2017. With Fr. Kevin, we remembered the importance of the Saints and their continual role within our Community. We took time to ask our House Saints, Edmund Campion, John Fisher, Ann Line, Thomas More, Nicolas Owen and Margaret Ward to intercede our personal prayers. Throughout the month of November, students in years 7, 8 and 9 will be celebrating Remembrance Services in their R.E lessons with Fr. Kevin. This is an opportunity to reflect and remember those dear to us who have died. On the 15th of December we will be celebrating Christmas Jumper Day in aid of 'Save the Children'. All staff and students will be asked to come into school in non-school uniform, wearing a Christmas Jumper with the contribution of £1 to raise money for children less fortunate than ourselves. Thank you for your continued support.
FOOTBALL REPORT
Bishop Douglass 2 - 1 East Barnet As the murky fog rolled across the Bishop Douglass pitch, the Year 8 boys had a chance of one last hurrah against East Barnet before they break up for the winter football break. The boys asserted themselves straight away by getting into shape and moving as a unit towards the centre of the pitch. the passing was zippy and quick, which made it difficult for East Barnet to get a foot hold in the game. After 10 minutes of dominating play, the deadlock was finally broken, Marcel was played through tidily by Matthew and stroked the ball past the keeper, 1-0. More scintillating play followed from BD, forcing some good saves from the Eat Barnet goalkeeper. The whistle for half time was then blown and the boys returned to their coaches for the team talk. As BD got us under way, it was much of the same for the second half, the boys were playing with real style which you could see they was enjoying with smiles all over the pitch with 5 minutes to go. Yet, after a good clearance from East Barnet, their striker was released with no defender in sight, as he bore down on goal, goalkeeper Michi tried his hardest but could only watch as the ball was struck past him, 1-1. Makel, showing his captain credentials, demanded that the boys kept their heads up and should try to push for the winner. And so, with 2 chances squandered and a minute to go BD were awarded a corner. As marcel whipped it in, Derek, leaping like a salmon swimming up stream, connected with an almighty header to secure the three points for BD. the year 8s were buoyant. After a fantastic start to the football calendar the boys now go into a well deserved winter break before they kick off again next year. they have worked incredibly hard and their conduct, attitude and spirit is always a joy to see along with their passion for the sport.

Barnet Parent/Carer Drop-In Sessions
The Specialist Inclusion Services and Educational
Psychology Team are facilitating ‘Parent/Carer Drop-
In’ sessions along with the pre-school teaching and
NHS SALT teams. These sessions are free sessions,
although they must be booked in advance (based on
a ‘first come – first allocated’ approach). They are
available for parents/carers of Barnet children and
young people (0-25), to share any concerns or issues
on a 1:1 basis with a relevant professional. It is a
stand-alone session, so this means that there is no
follow-up. The aim of this session is to provide
Barnet parents/carers with an opportunity to discuss
concerns, and collectively think through how to
move forward with the situation.
To access the sessions, parents/carers must book a place, utilising the contact details in the flyer enclosed with this newsletter and return to [email protected]
