Tis one, I believe, is the best o the bunch. Myinstructor even pointed out that his avorite ele-ment was the silhouette o the girae. What Tispiece is, essentially, a girae and an equally-talltree being ramed against a golden red sunset.

I created this using the gradient tool on AdobeIllustrator, to give it the illusion o a darkeningsky. I also created a pair o dark green ellipsesto make hills, and I made the sky out o a bigorange rectangle. Te tree and the girae weredone with the pen unction.

Tere are not really any little details one couldnotice in this work, since its two objects and asunset. Its simple, yet robust.

My instructor even pointed out that his fa-

vorite element was the silhouette of the gi-

    raffe.

    Hold The

    Onions

Tis one, I think, turned out the best, given that people actually managed torecognize what it was right o the bat, andthat I had a wider array o colors to chooserom. However, the original version o the

piece was criticized or an inconstant valuein color, and didnt have anything that in-dicated that it wasnt seemingly oating inmidair. It was or this reason that I recreated thepiece, introducing a cutting board into thework to give it an indictation that it isnt

    just oating.

Anyway, I created the backgrounds orthese pieces by writing my signature abunch o times in various brush sizes andshades o grey.

One detail in the sandwich picture onemight take notice o is how the ham onthe sandwich is just a big blue blotch withcurves drawn about it to resemble olds.Tey should also note how the bread is amere green smudge with a smaller lightgreen smudge on top, to give it the illusiono a third dimension. Finally, they couldnotice how the lower piece o lettuce isslightly lighter than the higher one.

    The original ver-

    sion of the piece

    was criticized for

    an inconstant valu

    in color, and didnt

    have anything that

    indicated that it

    wasnt seemingly

    oating in midair.

    Shape-

shiftTis piece was created as an experimentto test creating lines, rectangles, ellipses, and gradients in Adobe Illustrator. Ourinstructor told us what to create usingthese eatures, thus this picture shouldbe similar to everyone elses, and i it

seems unusual, Im not at ault.

Tis was never intended as an assign-

ment, but I will say that the rst detailone should noticeis the giant cup, the second is the grand-

ather clock, and the third is the door.

I made this by sketching out the sceneand the objects using lines and shapes,

then lling them in with color.

    Our instructor

    told us what to

    create using these

    features thus this

    picture should be

    similar to every-

one elses, and ifit seems unusual,

    Im not at fault.

Tis is supposed to be asteak. I titled it as suchdue to its blue color, which may suggest that

the meat is moldy androtten, making it idealood or maggots. Teproblem here was thatno one could tell what itwas because it lacked anydistinguishing eaturesthat suggest a juicy cut omeat.

    I titled it as

    such due to its

    blue color, whichmay suggest

    that the meat is

    moldy and rot-

    ten, making it

    ideal food for

    maggots.

In case you cant tell, thesetwo objects are supposed tobe a shoe (viewed rom the

back) and a baseball cap,as the title would suggest. My instructor and my peerswere unsure o what theseobjects were, and thoughtthem to be a can, or per-haps a box. Te main is-sue in telling what they aremight have something to dowith how the shades o blueI used aded in with eachother too much.

In case you cant tell, these two ob-

When I rst started out creating art or thisclass, it was rather dicult. I had hardly ever useda styus and a pad when creating true artwork, and my work ofen came out somewhat sloppy.Tey did, however, receive appraisal rom my in-stuctor and my peers.I created pieces by using

Adobe Illustrator and the aormentioned pad andstylus. We would use the pen tool when we didworks, and lines were made when I place a pointanywhere I wanted to on the pallette. I could addcolor by selecting what hues I wanted to use, andselected apply color. We later moved on to creat-ing pieces without he stylus, but it wasnt all thatdierent.

I created these piec-es as you see here togive them a sort o alook reminiscent oposter art rom the50's and 60's. Tisis best reected, Ithink, in the shoeimage. It almostlooks like something

Focusing on the book sketch,I eel that the rst detail thatshould come to one's atten-tion should be how the coveris slightly ajar, and thus, theront o the book is shroud-ed in darkness, which makesit seem three-dimensional.Te second detail to noticeshould be the small spot o

light on the corner o thecover, which would seem tosuggest that the maker hasa keen eye or pointing outsmall things such as this. Tenal detail should probablybe how the edges are out-lined with light grey, whichtoo suggest a keen eye ordetails.

I was tapped to begin construction on a illus-tration traced rom an image on the internet. At rst, I wanted to trace the landscape o a

sunny beach with a palm tree and the oceanin view, but my instructor inormed me that itwould have to replicate all o the ripples andwaves in the water- a prospect I did not relish. So I settled upon an image o a bird in ront o achain-link ence with a cactus o to the side.

What I did to build up this piece is creatingeach element (the ence, the bird, etc.) in layersso that they would not conict with each other

and risk having to redo a part o it. Te rst detail peopleought to notice should be, o course, the bird, consider-ing it is the ocal point o the picture. Te second detailshould be the ence, which is situated in such a way that

it looks almost exactly like one would in real l ie( whichshould be expected, considering this is was traced roman image). Te third and nal detail should be how thegrass is made up o individual black lines on a greencanvas, as I have ex plained above.

    Bird Variants

    At rst, I wanted

    to trace the land-

    scape of a sunny

    beach with a palm

    tree and the ocean

    in view, but my in-

    structor informed

me that it wouldhave to replicate

    all of the ripples

    and waves in the

    water- a prospect I

    did not relish.

    Silhouette of a Fowl

    Bird Variations

    Absurd Hue Bird

I created 10 variations o the piece, but Iwas told to present the 3 versions that I thoughtwere the best ones. Beginning with this one, I cre-ted it by lling in the areas with black, white, andrey, using white on the central gure (the bird) toistinguish it rom the background, and to makeure that it is the rst detail that viewers o theiece take notice o. As or minor details, however,he rst one that viewers should notice should behe chain-link pattern in the upper lef corner; theecond one is the grey blades o grass that stick out

gainst the black background; and the third is therey outline around the log, which gives it a sug-estion o light and shadow.

I had a lot o un with this one, choosinga wild array o colors to radically alter the visualpalette o the original version. With this, I have aeeling that the bird is denitely what is going tocatch viewer's eyes at rst glance, since it is themost vividly-colored o any o the objects in themage, with lots o blues, reds, and greens, which

are always eye-catching. What I did here in termso choosing colors was to select colors that did notgo together, to make it seem as antastic and eye-catching as possible.

Te rst minor detail notice is how thegrass is a solid pink, to emphasize the abstractness;the second one is the stark contrast between thecolors o the original, and this one; and the thirdone is how the bird's legs are two dierent colors,to, again, emphasize the abstractness.

Te nal one I did depicts the imagesas it would look i it were carved in apumpkin as a Jack-O-Lantern. I thateel this one is the most innovativevariation I've made or this project ionly that it is the most dierent romany other piece I have created or thiscourse. Tere isn't a whole lot to sayabout detail in this one, but one thingI will point out is that I've added aew lines to connect individual pieceswithin the yellow section to the outerorange section, to make it look atleast a smidgen realistic.

    Carved Turkey

    I created 10

    variations of the

    piece, but I was

    told to present

    the 3 versions

    that I thought

    were the bestones

    Extinct

    Birds

Shown here are bird variations that I did,but as I went trough them, I elt that theseones were not t to be presented in thethree presented variants.

What this one, essentally, is the birdchanged green. It is similar to the rainbow

bird above, but I elt that it wasnt as eye-catching. I created the piece by selectingeach individual section o the bird andchanging their color to a dierent shade oblue or green.

    Greenbeak

I elt that this one was too conusingand surreal to make the cut. I alsothought that it was a bit slapdash. What this is, at its core, is the variouselement o the bird strewn about thepicture and enlarged. Te main ocalpoint, I eel should be the birds eye,the second one should be the whiteand blue blotches in ront o thebird, and the third one should be thesquiggly lines.

    Scrambled

    Egg-Layer

    WheresMy Line?

Tis one is essentially the orignalpiece without any lines or shading.I made it the way it is by selectingcertain parts o the image anddeleteing them.

Here we have another experime-nal picture my instructor had myclass do. We were learning how touse the pen tool in Adobe Illusra-tor, and we did so by writing oursigniture multiple times with vari-ous brush sizes.Te rst detail thatI want people to notice is what Iperseve to be the largest signaturein the imahe, which is right in thecenter in red. Te second detail

is the non-cursive vartion o myname that is simply my names in-titals. Te nal detail I want pepoleto take note o is the little smileyace that I put in or the sake oartsyness.

resse 36 What one viewing these piecesshould see rst is how, in the caseo the coke bottle, there is no ac-tual outline o the bottle; the spi-

raling rings give the impression othe bottles shape. Another detailone ought to notice is how muchmore squat the Pom bottle is thanan actual one; this is becasue I de-liberately exaggerated its round-ness. One nal thing one should

notice is the irregular squiggle onthe handle o the watering can.Tis was to give the piece a very

    abstract quality.

Abstract, arent they? Tesewere created with Adobe Illus-trator with a digital pen and adrawing tablet. Our instructoradvises us to do hand exercisesbeore drawing by writing oursignatures using the program. As or the drawing process, itwas achieved by drawing vari-ous lines so that they took thedesired shape o a particular

object, bearing in mind to keepcount o how many lines were

    making up the object.

I chose to create sketches othese particular items becauseeach o them are the same, inthat they possess all the sameunctions, but they each havetheir own distinct shapes andeatures. I drew them in the

manner you see, with a great deal

o squiggles and crisscrossedlines, to give it a style reminis-

cent o illustrators like Shel Sil-verstein and Jules Feier.

Tough this might be poorlycrafed, this one was my avorite one

to create, since I've always had a thingor crafing antastic modes o convey-ance. What this is, obviously, is a car

that is likely the likes o which no onehas seen beore.I think I owe a lot to

ed Giesel (alias Dr. Seuss) in terms odesign.

As I did with the other pieces, Imade this out o various layers so that

it would be easy to alter or removeany details, unwanted or otherwise. I

added colors by using the ll optionwhen drawing lines. Tis was a tadtroublesome at times, but it worked

    out all right.

Te rst detail I want people to noticeis the goldsh hood ornament. It

would likely clue people in that thepiece was inspired by Dr.Seuss, giventhat the sh looks like one o the shrom One Fish, wo Fish, Red Fish,Blue Fish. Next, people should no-

tice the ag on the antenna. Tat wasmade using a special unction on thecolor selection. Finally, People shouldnotice how the windshield is the same

shape and color as the grate on theront o the car.

    What this is, obvious-
