Relieving Principal News with Louise Tate

Community / Small Schools Showcase Day: Goolmangar Hall, Saturday 26th May

We were fortunate enough to have a beautiful, sunny day for the community event at Goolmangar Hall last Saturday. Mrs

Skorjenko and I enjoyed chatting with locals and visitors, whilst busily spending our money on the variety of stall items on

display. The Blakebrook stall did extremely well earning $334 towards our school based gardening projects. Tremendous

thanks must go to Marion Johnson and John Tate who manned the stall, sold and amazing number of raffle tickets and as-

sisted with preparing plant and fresh produce. It was due to their enthusiasm that our day was so successful. Special

thanks also to Sally, Vicki and Sophie T for making delicious home baked goodies.

The highlight of the day was the performance of the small schools combined choir. Congratulations to Darcy, Massimo,

Rhys M, Alicia, Olive. Lillian M, Zoe, Chloe, Lilah, Eden, Obelia and Willow W who represented our school and sang with

gusto.

Finally, there are Salsa dancing lessons at the hall every Wednesday night from 7pm and it is a wonderful workout plus lots

of fun. My hip should pop back in over the next week or so. If this sounds like you then beginner lessons are just starting.

Interest Day: Friday 8th June

Interest Days are a small school initiative to encourage students to interact with peers from our local group of schools. This

year K-2 will travel to Coffee Camp for Indigenous activities; Years 3-4 are off to Caniaba for activities around the culture of

Commonwealth countries; and our Year 5-6 will remain at school to participate in a team building and sports day.

Bus travel is free but all students are to return the pink permission note by next Tuesday 5th June (T2W6).

Canteen

We are struggling to find volunteers for the canteen on Fridays. If you can help out for one day please let the P&C know,

contacts are on the last page. Volunteers get a meal deal free for one child on the day they work – great idea!

Blakebrook is….

The school is reviewing our current school reward system through Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) and we are

wanting to gather some community data on our present practices. During upcoming social events teachers will be asking

for feedback via an X chart. If you would like to participate, it’s all anonymous and the data will be collated and results

shared next term.

Peer Support Program Week 5

Our session this week in Stronger together—our Peer Support module for our students, considers the relationships that

students

develop and how they can change over time. It looks at the role they play in contributing to these relationships and how

the use of power, trust and honesty can change a relationship. Parents of participating students might like to talk about the

different relationships that you have or their relationships with family and other friends outside school.

Peer Support Australia provides reading and resources specifically for parents

Visit: www.peersupport.edu.au and use the parent tab.
