BLARNEY 210 KILLEAGH 28 The Blarney Under 16 hurlers emerged victorious after a pulsating County A Final played at Ballygarvan on Saturday, the 16 th of September. The sides were level three points a piece after the first quarter with all Blarney’s scores coming from the stylish Colin Murphy, two from play (the first a beauty from the left corner) and one from a free. The game erupted in excitement at the start of the second quarter when first Killeagh stole in for a soft goal after the Blarney defence failed to clear. Cian O’ Shea then replied immediately for Blarney with a free before the hardworking Shane O’ Keeffe pulled on a loose ball to rattle the Killeagh net. Then, three minutes later Killeagh pilfered a second goal when a long delivery was added to close in to leave Blarney trailing by two points. Blarney had a number of goal opportunities at this stage but failed to convert and may have been wiser to take points. Killeagh tagged on a further two points before the end of the half with Blarney’s only reply being a point from Shane O’ Keeffe after good work from Ciarán Buckley leaving the scoreline at the interval, 15 to 25 in favour of Killeagh. Blarney ignited at the start of the second half with Colin Murphy adding another point from play and Craig Sykes goaling expertly with a ground stroke. Killeagh fought back and pointed twice in the 9 th minute to regain the lead and it was all to play for. However, it was Blarney who seized the initiative at this vital stage with Cian O’ Shea pointing from play and Colin Murphy adding a point from a free. Blarney were on top now with their defence defending resolutely although Killeagh equalised with seven minutes remaining. But it was Blarney who finished the stronger with two pointed frees by Colin Murphy and indeed the margin could have been greater. A tremendous victory laced with no shortage of passion and skill of which Blarney can be very proud. Blarney Team: Daniel Hallissey, Ross Vickery, Padraig Conway (c), Barry Phelan, Shane Sexton, Jack O’ Regan, David Walsh, Raymond Deasy, Mark O’ Leary, Cian O’ Shea (02, 01 free), Craig Sykes (10), Ciarán Buckley, Raymond O’ Donovan, Shane O’ Keeffe (11), Colin Murphy (07, 04 frees). Substitute: Thomás Barrett.

BLARNEY 12 CLOUGHDUV 18

The Blarney Minor A Hurlers put up a brave performance in the MidCork Final before eventually losing to redhot favourites, Cloughduv, in Coachford on Thursday, the 3 rd of August 2006. The first half saw both defences on top although Blarney did concede five points to trail at the interval by five points to no score. However, early in the second half Blarney scored a goal through young Colin Murphy which put them very much back in the game. Midway through the half Blarney were reduced to 14 players and this made the task of reeling in their opponents wellnigh impossible. Nevertheless, Blarney fought on with great spirit and determination but missed a number of scoring chances and this was to prove costly in the end. With three minutes remaining, Cloughduv scored a goal to ensure victory although Blarney finished with two points from Patrick O’ Sullivan and Raymond Deasy. Best for Blarney: Mark Cremin, Brian Jordan, Patrick O’ Sullivan, Raymond Deasy.

Blarney Team: Trevor Hegarty, Mark Cremin, Colm O’ Donoghue, Brian Jordan, Jack O’ Regan, Conor O’ Reilly, Michael O’ Reilly, Robert White (Capt.), Raymond Deasy (01), Patrick O’ Sullivan (01), Aaron Hyde, Ivan O’ Leary, Jason McCarthy, Shane Sexton. Substitutes: Colin Murphy (10), Cian O’ Shea, Raymond O’ Donovan, Niall McNamara.
