From little
things, big
things grow We’re literally growing at Blacktown
Hospital this month as landscapers bed
down the thousands of plants, grasses,
tress and shrubs for the new hospital
gardens.
Staff and visitors have been asking us
what’s happening at the main entry, so
here’s an update. The garden beds at
the front will frame the new vehicle
drop-off. The centre trees are Chinese
pistachios and the ones on the outside
are ornamental pears, both chosen for
their shape and colour.
For the gardeners out there, the lower
plantings are tussock grasses, creeping
boobialla (Myoporem), philodendron
Xanadu, rapheolepis Oriental Pearls,
liriope Little John, and dichondra, a
hardy groundcover.
On the upper levels, magnolia
grandiflora and ornamental pears will
provide respite on the terraces.
Effektiv landscaping site manager
Brendan said the team is proud to be
“adding the finishing touches which
bring the hospital to life”.
Thanks to Brendan, David, Sunia, Will
and Gulaun from Effektiv - especially
Gulaun who was having his first day on
the job! Welcome to the team! Matthew, Robyn and David on the level 6 Birthing and Newborn Care courtyard with a new ornamental pear tree

That’s where we
come in Our Blacktown cancer centre (completed in stage 1) recently
featured in a new information video for the non-profit
campaign Targeting Cancer. Called That’s Where We Come
In, the video encourages patients and health care
professionals to become more informed about radiation
therapy.
One in two cancer patients would benefit from radiation
therapy, yet due to lack of awareness or access, many
patients miss out. Targeting Cancer is breaking down
common misconceptions that radiation therapy is a
dangerous and difficult treatment, whereas it’s an extremely
sophisticated and safe process.
For more information, see the video on YouTube at https://

On
paper Our Acute Services Building
teams are continuing their
activity based working
transition program with
paper independence and
etiquette sessions.
Decluttering is also a big part
of the move to the new
building and while we’re not
going the full Marie Kondo,
it’s a great opportunity for
everyone to re-evaluate
clutter in their workspaces.

Shady
shelter The Healing Garden at Mount
Druitt Hospital has received new
shade sail, making the garden
more accessible in all kinds of
weather.
The garden is located between
the award-winning new
Community Dialysis Centre and
the Palliative Care Unit at Mount
Druitt, and includes seating and
artwork surrounded by healing
bush tucker plants.
Lighting up The Lantern is major glass artwork which defines the new Atrium in Building A
(Acute Services Building). If you’re walking in from the car park entry, look up -
there’s a great view from the pedestrian tunnel.
