Are you interested in tracing your family history? If the answer is ‘Yes’, then you need to attend
the workshop on Ancestry Research. This Workshop will equip you with a basic knowledge of
how to trace your family history. Participants will be introduced to the records used in
genealogical research. There will be examples of records on display. Professional genealogists
will be on hand to answer questions. This workshop is facilitated by the Barbados Department
of Archives. BDS $20.00 per person per session.

A spirited ceremony intended to welcome and encourage the Diaspora participants. Hear
Welcome Remarks from Senator the Honourable Maxine P.O. McClean, Minister of Foreign
Affairs and Foreign Trade and the Feature Address by the Honourable Freundel J. Stuart, Q.C.,
M.P., Prime Minister. Interspersed with cultural performances, this ceremony is sure to give
everyone a sense of belonging at BNC 2012.

This production will fuse local creativity with international appeal as we showcase and highlight
the creative industries in Barbados. There will be a mounted photography exhibition by
Barbadian photographers and the room will be decorated to set the mood for a world class
production. A series of short Bajan films, a spoken word presentation, a small fashion
collection, dancers, a live band and local music artistes will be at the core of the Creative
Economy Showcase. Registration is free to BNC 2012 Registrants and just BDS $20.00 per

The “Bajan Cultural Immersion-Cooking the Bajan Way” is an interactive culinary workshop
which is to be facilitated by renowned Barbadian Chef, Mr. Peter Edey. This workshop will
reflect the format of a television cooking show. A number of mobile kitchens will be brought
‘on set’ and participants will be encouraged to interact with Chef Edey and his assistant chefs
in the preparation and sampling of a number of traditional Bajan dishes that highlight cultural
culinary retentions throughout the Barbadian Diaspora. BDS $20.00 per person.

participants to the work in developing a local film industry. The session will be in two parts:
First the screening of the full-length feature film rated PG - 99 minutes - followed by a 5 minute
break and then a discussion with the director and other key members of the Barbadian film
sector - 25 minutes.

This session will be facilitated by Dr Indianna D. Minto-Coy from the Shridath Ramphal Centre,
UWI and features the seminal documentary, “Forward Home: The Power of the Caribbean
Diaspora”. Shot in 9 locations across the globe, Forward Home reveals the economic power of
Caribbean overseas communities, showcasing the experiences of Diasporic peoples who
straddle the dual worlds of Caribbean Homelands and Global Cities as travelers and
entrepreneurs, and the organisations that make the relationship work.
