FROM THE PASTORS DESK Dear Brothers and Sisters, Members and Friends of the Hill United Presbyterian Church: In the Christian Faith, while Christmas is essential because of the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus as we celebrate the Word made flesh, even more vital is Easter, the celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus as He triumphed over death, hell, sin, evil, and Satan. The power of the resurrection is the lynchpin of our faith in Christ Jesus. Paul, in I Corinthians put it this way: But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ has not been raised; if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain...If for this life only we have hoped in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied. But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the first-fruits of those who have died! This is the origin of THE EASTER LAUGH which brings the triumphant and exultant joy of Gods Love, Faith, and Hope, eternally so, in Jesus Christ. With the Joy and the Laughter of Jesus Christ, let us wonderfully celebrate Easter! Christ is Risen! He is Risen, indeed!

    Pastor Clark Reverend Clark Sawyer

P.S. Ill look forward to seeing you throughout

    Holy Week!

study, fellowship, outreach, and service. Invite and

    bring others also!

Paul once wrote, Do not neglect the habit of meeting together, for in

meeting together we stir one another

up to love and good works!

  • GHANA MISSION TASK FORCE REPORT

In a Christmas card lately received, Mr. and Mrs. Nana Sam Brempong expressed their joy upon opening a Christmas greeting posted on one of our

centennial note cards. They were impressed with the beauty of our church

facility. The Brempongs are quite excited about the Bubiashie congregation planning to complete their sanctuary sometime in 2015. Construction on this church building was

initiated in 2004 or 2005. The late reception of the card to us? Must have been lost in the mail

as it was dated before Christmas. Such is overseas mail delivery at times.

Money thoughts. What has been your recent grocery shopping experience? In recent Ghanaian

news, the business section on foodstuff prices recently showed:

A bucket of tomatoes went for GH10.00 ($ 3.90), with onions selling at GH9.00($ 3.50) for

the same quantity. A small basket of green and red peppers went for GH2.00 ($ 0.78), while a

small basket of garden eggs sold at GH3.00 ($ 1.17). These quantities are not specified. Would

you rather shop in Butler or Ghana? But, wage rates are considerably less than in the U.S.A.

The average income is somewhere around $3,000 yearly. GH is the Ghanaian currency

    designation.

Please keep the Bubiashie District churches, Bernard Daddy, chairperson of the Bubiashie

Scholarship Committee, as well as the students in your prayers.

James Ihlenfeld for the Ghana Mission Task Force

A great big thank you to all who prayed for me, sent me cards, and the phone

calls when I had a knee replacement (which was very successful). May God bless

each and every one of you! I greatly appreciate all of your love and support!

    With love, Jane Weichey

DO YOU ENJOY GARDENING? We invite you to come and join the Hill Garden Club! We have things to do for all

skill levels or just come and give moral support. Weather permitting, we will be

meeting in May to start our cleanup project and begin planting. Keep an eye out for

the upcoming insert in the April bulletins to sign up to help! If you have any

questions, please contact Pete McElhaney and Gerry Graham.

MAD (Music, Art and Drama) camp signups began March 1st. MAD Camp will be

presenting "Fiddler on the Roof" (JR) this summer - dates are July 20-27. The

show will be presented on Saturday, July 26 at 6pm and Sunday, July 27 at

    10:30am.

  • PER CAPITA Per Capita (about that blue envelope in your box of weekly offering envelopes). In case you are wondering what the blue envelope near the beginning of your 2014 offering envelope box is for, you are not the only one. Per Capita is the assessment each congregation pays for each church member recorded on their membership rolls. It is assessed by our denomination (Presbyterian Church, U.S.A.) to cover the required administrative expenses to operate the Presbytery, Synod and General Assembly offices of each judicatory. These expenses are $34.22 per member for 2014. Since the Per Capita is included in calculating our operating budget, not everyone contributes extra to this source. Others prefer to do so in order to help ease a little of the financial burden that this places upon the church budget. A little extra giving does make a difference when our congregations total Per Capita assessment is $12,114.00. Even if you are not led to give the entire $34.22, any amount toward the Per Capita would be appreciated. Thank you to those who choose to help. As of 3/28/14, we have received $3,330.70 toward the $12,114.00 total Per Capita. Blessings In Christ, The Stewardship and Mission Support Committee

    ONE GREAT HOUR OF SHARING

    Lenten And Easter Season Offering

More than sixty years ago, in response to

the devastation of World War II, a

    Saturday evening nationwide broadcast

asked Americans to give generously the

next morning in their churches. A

    remarkable variety of national leaders

and celebrities gave their efforts to the

    broadcast. More than seventy-five

thousand churches responded. So was born The One Great Hour of Sharing.

Today, our Presbyterian Church USA uses its offering

gifts roughly divided into thirds. Each of these three

programsSelf-development of People, Presbyterian Disaster Assistance and the Presbyterian Hunger

programreceives 32% of the offering; the remaining 4% goes to the Presbyterian Hunger Program for its

work on homelessness and affordable housing.

The Presbyterian Church USA offering has received eight

to eleven million dollars a year for at least the past

twenty years. Our goal at Hill Church this year is

    $1,600.00.

Please pray about whether God wants you to give to this

offering. If you are led to give, please give generously.

Envelopes will be in the bulletins at our worship services

throughout Lent and into the celebration of Holy Week

    and Easter.

    Blessings to you!

The Stewardship and Mission Support Committee

    NOMINATING COMMITTEE

This is the time of the year when the Nominating Committee solicits your help in nominating people for Church Officers as Elders, Deacons, and Nomina t ing Commi t tee members. If you have someone in mind, please list their name on the Nomination Insert included with your Church bulletin in April, and return it to the Church office.

EASTER FLOWERS Dont forget to order your flowers for Easter this year. The deadline for orders is April 9th. Lilies, tulips, and hyacinths are available. Order forms are on the Deacons table in the sanctuary. The price this year is $7.00.

    GRADUATION RECOGNITION

As we move toward the time of Graduation Ceremonies, if there is a member of your family graduating from High School, College, Post-Graduate Studies, Vocational-Technical or any other program, please tell the Church Office the name of the person and from where they are graduating. Please have this information to us by May 15, 2014. Graduation recognition for high school students will take place in early June, 2014.
