Bond Performed at Canada’s Wonderland Festival of Music

On the morning of May 19, the Bond Band went to Canada’s Wonderland and performed beautifully for the Festival of Music.

The Festival of Music at Canada's Wonderland is an event to showcase school bands and choirs in Toronto. It is open to all grade levels and groups. The performance is not for a competition, and a professional musician adjudicates all the performances.

According to Michael Allen, our Music Teacher and the Band’s Conductor at Bond, the Band did an excellent job especially with the new members this year. The three songs they played included “Fires of Mazama”, “It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing”, and “Jump, jive an' wail”.

On March 6th, Bond Senior Choir went to Mayfield Secondary School with their teachers to perform at the Ontario Vocal Festival of Canada. This non-competitive vocal festival is to encourage students to perform without any competition between schools.

“Bond Academy sang three songs at the Ontario Vocal Festival, including Chicken on a Fence Post, Inscription of Hope, and Canoe Song for a large audience and two adjudicators.” said Laura Harvey, the Vocal Music Teacher at Bond. “Most of the choirs in the festival were high school choirs. This is Bond’s second time attending the festival. ”

Ms. Harvey mentioned that the

On the evening of April 26th, the Family Night at Bond’s Spring Scholastic Book Fair was back! The theme this spring was “Happy Camper”.

On May 29th, many parents attended the cabaret night celebrating a drama event at Bond. They gathered together in the gym to enjoy desserts, wine, cheese and the entertainment provided by their children on the stage. Bond Drama Club members performed the “Lion and Mouse Stories” by Colleen Neuman.

“I wanted to involve everyone who would like to be involved in a production and not just include the strong actors. We had a strong group of 45 participants.” said Elizabeth Van Wyck, the Drama Class Teacher at Bond. “My

As an annual tradition, Bond talent show and arts night sleep-over event was held on March 3rd. The main categories of this event included a Talent Show and a Sleepover that raised funds for the Children’s Breakfast Club. Parents were invited to enjoy these meaningful evening activities with the students.

With the creativity and hard work of the Bond Elementary Teachers, our students enjoyed a night with a variety of fun activities on campus. For example, a French wording game, Arts and Crafts to make mini fireflies and mini Adirondack chairs, a dancing game, fishing for a prize … and a silent auction for a gift certificate donated by Toronto's award-winning portrait artist, Ana Pascos.

Thank you to everyone for supporting our annual Book Fair and our quest for increasing literacy here at Bond!

The choir looked and sounded great. We are so pleased!”

Afterwards, a special award was presented to Puja, a Bond Grade 6 student, for the Great Spirit as a leader in the choir.

biggest challenge was finding a play that would showcase the groups' talents as a whole.”

“During our Cabaret Drama Night, I was most proud and impressed to see the students work together very well as one cohesive group. The children supported one another such that it was clear they understood that there were not a few Stars but 45 stars that all shone together! ” Ms. Van Wyck emphasized that successful drama work relies on working co-operatively with other actors, giving your scene partners your full attention, focusing, and sharing the stage with them. She

added: “Teamwork, focus and risk-taking (the willingness to do something new or to take a chance that you might look silly) are paramount to creating and presenting a successful piece of theatre.”

The children's success not only showed in their work, but in the response from the audience. “We were impressed to see how well the students did last night. They showed a lot of energy, and the show turned out great!” said some members of the audience after the play.

On May 23, 2017, the students and teachers of ESL Foundations, ESL CO, and ESL DO went on a trip to the Bata Shoe Museum. It was a sunny day well suited for a spring trip. I looked forward to the trip from three weeks ago. We saw lots of different kinds of shoes from all around the world in the museum. We learned the history and the culture of all the shoes, and we learned knowledge about some of the countries. It was a good trip!

First, with the tour guide leading us, we went into a small exhibition room.

After the informative presentation, the students were encouraged to compare the differences between Non-Human head scale and Human head scale based on the bone clones.

On May 23rd, an Officer from 41 Division presented an informative session for Grade 8 and Secondary students at Bond.

The main topic of this session was “Online Safety”. Office Hanna talked about what online safety problems were, where to get help and how to get out of uncomfortable situations whenever necessary. In addition to some real examples of crimes, she utilized true or false questions to help students understand the importance of online safety.

On March 22nd, Bond’s U20 Girl’s Volleyball Team challenged their teachers to a fun match. As one of the popular events organized by the Prom Committee, students gathered in the gym to cheer for their friends and teachers.
