2. The Theme of Mariano Azuelas The Underdogs
The Underdogs gives us a view of what the Mexican Revolution was like during the term of President Porfirio Diaz.
The book follows a small band of Revolutionaries who are fighting for the common good of Mexico.
3. Theme of Underdogs continued
They are truly the underdogs, because they can barely scruff enough money to get weapons to fight the well-trained Mexican Army.
They are fighting for the freedom of the Mexican lower-class.
4. Main Characters of the Underdogs
Demetrio Macias: A man who is an excellent marksman and leader of men in battle. He helps men to fight in the Revolution with a good purpose. Soon he forgets his purpose and begins to see the Revolution as futile. He and his men are killed at the end of the novel.

5. The theme of Caleb Carrs The Alienist
This thriller is about the beginnings of Criminology and creating a psychological profile of the criminal.
This books setting is in New York, New York in 1896.
A group of investigators hired by the Police Department seeks a child killer.
6. Theme of Alienist continued
The novel offers an interesting perspective on the situation in New York during the late 1890s.
The novel shows a lot of tension between the new immigrants coming into New York and their American rivals.
7. Characters of The Alienist
Dr. Laszlo Kriezler: The psychologist (alienist) in the book who has a reputation of being involved with patients who needed his help. He is the main man who seeks the murderer and is the best character at finding clues.
John Schuyler Moore: The narrator. A prominent journalist who knows a lot about NY and is asked to take part in the investigation.
Theodore Roosevelt: The head of the NYPD who initiates and plans the investigation. He is known as being a brave, powerful,and kind-hearted man who has many enemies.
Sara Howard: a young woman working in the NYPD who is asked to be in the investigation and offers an interesting perspective in the case. She is a kind-hearted, passionate woman, and devoted employee.
Marcus and Lucius Issacson: Two Jewish detectives who are invited to work in the Police Department by Roosevelt. They are brilliant and creative in finding clues of the criminal.
Stevie: The young adolescent who is Kriezlers assistant in getting a lot of labor done throughout the novel. He is very streetwise and loves tobacco.
Cyrus: An African American who is Kriezlers personal assistant. He is kind-hearted but tough when needed and helps Kriezler in anything the doctor needs.
Mary Palmer: Kriezlers maid. She was abused as a child and has a speech impediment. She is brave and loves the doctor. As soon as they seek to build a relationship she is killed.
