Board Chair & President PerspectiveDear Friends,
Last year, the need to continue mobilizing important funds and resources for Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida was great. Yet, in spite of another year of economic strain, volunteers, donors and corporations rose to meet this challenge.
Strengthening the effectiveness of our organization and our Clubs was another top priority over the course of the year. Thanks to impactful events such as our five Faces of the Future Fundraising Breakfasts last fall, and to our signature event, Celebrate The Children Dinner & Auction in the spring, we were able to garner heightened awareness toward our mission and raise vital funds needed to maintain a thriving operation.
We are proud of the strides we have made collectively in a relatively challenging economic environment and feel confident in the work of our Clubs and in the positive outcomes we deliver each year. Looking ahead, we are realistic in the fact that there is still much work to be done.
There is still a significant need to grow our current base of support and engage new friends in the community. Our goal is to serve even more at-risk children in the four-county area, as well as open additional Clubs where our communities need them most. In order for Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida to move forward and bring powerful change to young lives, we must rely on the continued support and encouragement of our community leaders, corporate partners and neighbors—people like you!
We thank the thousands of people who have been a part of our Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida family of giving since 1944, and to all those who joined our great network of generosity last year. Working together can only strengthen our organization, our community and our Club members who are destined to become the future leaders and decision-makers in Central Florida.
With Gratitude,With Gratitude,

Core Programs
Youth of the Year is Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida’s premier recognition program for Club members, promoting service to the Club, community and family; academic success; strong moral character ; life goals; and poise and public speaking ability. The program is used as a year-round tool for fostering young people’s character, personal growth and leadership qualities.
Local Clubs recognize members ages 14 to 18 as Youth of the Month winners and select a Youth of the Year, who then participates in state competitions with Boys & Girls Clubs of America, with the potential to move their way up to the State, regional and then the national competition.
What is Youth of the Year?
Tonjanika Smith, a ten-year member of the East Altamonte Branch, was named 2010 Youth of the Year for the state of Florida by Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Along with the prestigious title, Tonjanika also received a $1,000 scholarship from the Reader’s Digest Foundation and a $5,000 scholarship contribution from the Petro Family Foundation.
Through her years at the Club, Tonjanika demonstrated Youth of the Year qualities with hard work and tremendous dedication to her academics, community involvement and
even through her work at the Club as a mentor to younger members.
Tonjanika graduated high school with a 4.23 grade point average and was accepted to the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business on a full scholarship. She intends to follow a career path in nonprofit organization management and realize her all-time life goal to build and operate a Boys & Girls Club in years to come.
“Because of the Boys & Girls Club, I always see the purpose of why we do something, why we face adversities. We face trials to learn from them, grow stronger and help someone else avoid negative situations in the future. Through this emotional journey, I discovered my impulse to be great stretched far beyond the realms of titular glory.
While some members will agree that the Club saved and changed their lives, I personally believe the Club is and will always be my life. After all, I am not concerned with making lots of money and I am not concerned about having my name internationally known. My focus, my drive, my life revolves around representing the underrepresented, the forgotten and all who seek refuge at the Club. It is difficult to explain the significance of this place to those who have not experienced it for themselves.”
—Tonjanika Smith
Each year, Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida serves over 12,000 at-risk children between the ages of six and eighteen, and provides them with a safe place to learn and grow. At each of our 29 Clubs in Brevard, Osceola, Orange and Seminole Counties, nationally recognized core youth development programs are offered to meet the diverse needs and interests of members, as well as teach them the skills needed to achieve their full potential in life.

The Jeremiah Milbank Society, initiated in
February 2004, was created by Boys & Girls
Clubs of America to honor individuals who
donate $10,000 or more in unrestricted cash
gifts to Boys & Girls Clubs across the nation.
Jeremiah Milbank, a lifelong believer in
volunteerism, helped President Herbert Hoover
develop the Boys & Girls Club national
organization that provides support services for
Clubs serving disadvantaged youth. Mr.
Milbank’s life-long concern for youth and
those less fortunate has changed the lives of
millions and is the inspiration for The Jeremiah
Milbank Society.
Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida is
tremendously grateful to our local Jeremiah
Milbank Society members for giving so
generously to our organization and to the
thousands of children we serve each day. Your
gifts are making an impact and imprint in
young lives and in the future of our community.

“Disney Cruise Line is proud to support organizations like Boys & Girls Clubs. They mean so much to our community and they play such an essential role in brightening the futures of our young people. Nothing compares with realizing you’ve helped a young person live up to his or her full potential – and helped put hopes and dreams within reach.”

The Jeremiah Milbank Society, initiated in
February 2004, was created by Boys & Girls
Clubs of America to honor individuals who
donate $10,000 or more in unrestricted cash
gifts to Boys & Girls Clubs across the nation.
Jeremiah Milbank, a lifelong believer in
volunteerism, helped President Herbert Hoover
develop the Boys & Girls Club national
organization that provides support services for
Clubs serving disadvantaged youth. Mr.
Milbank’s life-long concern for youth and
those less fortunate has changed the lives of
millions and is the inspiration for The Jeremiah
Milbank Society.
Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida is
tremendously grateful to our local Jeremiah
Milbank Society members for giving so
generously to our organization and to the
thousands of children we serve each day. Your
gifts are making an impact and imprint in
young lives and in the future of our community.

“My Boys & Girls Club is like a home away from home. I know I'm always safe and there are people who care about me.”
