Yesterday at the School Development Day (SDD) staff continued working on a new school vision. The new vision will update the one that is currently used which was developed in 2010. Staff have come to a consensus on the format and statements that make up the new vision. In the upcoming weeks I will be seeking input from both year 5/6 classes, the P & C and also the School Council about suggested refinements or modifications. If any parents have feedback or comments after reading the new vision below, you can either attend the P&C meeting or send an email through to me with your thoughts. I have also included the current vision, which staff have found to be very lengthy and not reflective of our school direction. Current Vision: “At Braeside Primary School we aim to create a learning environment where all students feel safe, happy and included. We understand that students have a range of skills and abilities, catering for individual needs through curriculum that is both differentiated and inclusive. All students are encouraged to achieve their personal best. Parents are valued as partners in their child’s education and work together with staff to ensure that all students are successful. Literacy and Numeracy are specifically targeted, with 50% of teaching time devoted to best practice teaching and learning programs and emphasis on a whole school approach to planning and learning. Braeside staff are dedicated and professional. We expect high standards from staff and students and constantly strive for higher levels of achievement.” For further information in regards to events please don ‘t hesitate to contact the front office. Welcome back to all families and students, I trust you enjoyed your two week break and are ready for the final term of the year. Yesterday at the School Development Day (SDD) staff continued working on a new school vision. The new vision will update the one that is currently used which was developed in 2010. Principal’s News continued...

Suggested New Vision : “Braeside PS is a dynamic learning community that values diversity and fosters a sense of belonging.

We meet the needs of each individual through collaborative, reflective, and evolving school-wide practices that provide explicit, engaging experiences. Our students achieve their academic and social potential and are contributing members of the community.”

Term planner Please find attached the term planner for the term with all the events included for your information. Can I ask that you take particular note of the dates set for the end of year events. These are an integral part of the Braeside School year and a way for students to celebrate all that has happened during 2017. Planning for 2018 We are currently appointing staff and planning classes for 2018. In the next newsletter I will announce the school structure for 2018 and class placement request forms will be available. Class placement request forms give parents the opportunity to have input into the placement of their child. There may be social, academic or personal reasons for your requests. We endeavour to accommodate requests and if we are unable to, you will be contacted by myself to discuss the options. At this time of year, it is important for us to know which students will be with us for 2018. Also, confirming the number of Kindergarten students is critical. In 2018, Braeside will offer 3 full days of Kindergarten. This is an additional 3 hours each week. This will support improved attendance and give students more time for the play based learning experiences we are implementing as a whole school program. If you know of any kindergarten students who have not enrolled, please encourage them to come and collect their enrolment forms. Athletics carnival Congratulations to all students who participated in last terms carnival. As a whole the students were very supportive of each other, with many older students supporting and assisting younger children throughout the day. This made the job of choosing the recipient of the Viljoen Perpetual Sportsmanship Award very difficult. There were many choices we could have made. Reflecting back into practice for sport made the decision a little easier. A big congratulations to Lily Richardson for her efforts both for her faction and for the school. Also, a big thank you to Miss McCarley for organising the day and to all the parents for your help and support over the two days. Being able to draw on such a large range of enthusiastic helpers, makes the day more enjoyable enabling it to run smoothly. Miss McCarley will be looking for helpers for the upcoming Interschool Carnival which Braeside are hosting this year. Teresa Wigg Principal

BRING HOME A BIG BROTHER OR SISTER AND BRING FRENCH, ITALIAN OR SPANISH CULTURE

TO LIFE!

Why not volunteer to host an international student from France, Italy or Spain next year? We have a small group of delightful students coming to Australia for 11 weeks to immerse in local Australian culture,

experience our High schools, sports, environment and lifestyle. All these international students are around 15 or 16 years old, speak excellent English, have their own spending money, cover all school expenses, and we arrange all aspects of their program. They are looking forward to joining an Australian family for a short

term cultural immersion stay. It’s fun and interesting to help these young people achieve their Australian dream. If you would like to know more, please email your interest to ICM on [email protected] or

call Georgie or Anja on 1800 500 501, or visit our website www.icm-education.com.
