-6-

Begin by locating the WH-10A Communication Cableincluded with your control system. The WH-10A cablefeatures a 4-plug connector on one end of the cable, designed to connect with your Attic Breeze model fan.

FC-10A Installation

Next, locate the 4-plug connector power cable on yourAttic Breeze fan. The power cable should be hangingfreely from the bottom of the fan. If necessary, unplugany thermal switch connector or other connectorspreviously installed with the power cable. Plug theWH-10A Communication Cable into the fan’s powercable and route the WH-10A cable to the locationwhere the FC-10A Fan Controller will be installed.Secure the WH-10A Communication Cable as needed.

Older model Attic Breeze fans are not designedwith a 4-plug connector power cable and cannotbe used with the Breeze Mate™ CS-10A/CS-11Acontrol systems. A retrofit kit is available from AtticBreeze that may be installed to convert your oldermodel fan for use with the new Breeze Mate™ wiringconfiguration. Contact Attic Breeze customer supportfor more information or consult your local Attic Breezedealer for additional assistance.

!

The FC-10A Fan Controller should be installed withinroughly 8-9 feet of your Attic Breeze fan. Choose anunrestricted, open location that allows the controllerproper access for monitoring of attic air conditions.Using the included #8 wood screws, mount theFC-10A Fan Controller on a vertical framing memberor wall mounting surface. The controller should bemounted with the Fusible Link Safety Switch [16] ventfacing downward, toward the attic floor. Do not overtighten the mounting screws during installation.

With the MC-10A controller configured to the desiredsettings, the display screen should now show thecurrent temperature and relative humidity for the fancontroller assigned to network channel one.

Temperature Display [1] and Humidity Display [12]will show “- -” on the display screen whenever theMC-10A Remote Interface Controller is not able toestablish communication with a fan controller onthe wireless network. This will normally occur whenthere is not enough sunlight for fan operation. However, lack of communication may also occur whenthere is too much interference or distance between theMC-10A controller and a specific fan controller.

!

Using the Fan Button [5], cycle through the controllernetwork channels and verify that all installed fancontrollers on the wireless network are incommunication with the MC-10A Remote InterfaceController. If needed, repeat this procedure in thelocation where the MC-10A controller will be installed.

Mount the MC-10A Remote Interface Controller in yourdesired location. Slide-on screw mounts are provideon the controller housing for your convenience.

Operating the Control System

The Fan Icon [2] is used to indicate when a selected AtticBreeze fan is operating. While in automatic control mode, the MC-10A controller will display the Fan Icon [2] andmake a selected fan operational any time either the currenttemperature or humidity are greater than the controller’s setpoints. Additionally, the Fan Power LED Indicator [14] onthe FC-10A Fan Controller will be illuminated when theselected fan is operating.

Operation of your Attic Breeze fan may be configured withinthe below set point ranges:

Temperature 32F° - 122°F (0°C - 50°C)Humidity 10% - 90%

For optimum energy efficiency, Attic Breeze recommends atemperature set point of 75°F (24°C) and a humidity setpoint of 50% for typical attic ventilation applications.

Set point changes and configuration settings willremain in memory when the fan controller shutsdown at night. When enough sunlight is available, the FC-10A Fan Controller will re-establishcommunications and resume operation as normal.

Testing for Attic Depressurization

The Breeze Mate™ solar ventilation system features ourproprietary differential pressure sensing technologydesigned to prevent attic depressurization. When an atticspace has insufficient intake ventilation, depressurization ofthe attic may occur resulting in decreased energy efficiencyand poor performance from your solar attic fan. BreezeMate™ gives you the control to ensure that your solar atticfan is properly installed and operating at maximum air flowperformance.

Access the Depressurization Test Menu by holdingdown the Decrease Button [4] for 10 seconds.

-15-

When the Depressurization Test is started, the BreezeMate™ control system will shut down all fans installedon the network for a period of five minutes, allowingthe attic pressure to come to equilibrium with ambientbarometric pressure.

While in the Depressurization Test Menu, use theIncrease Button [3] and Decrease Button [4] to makeyour menu selections. The parameter to beconfigured will blink until your selection isacknowledged. Using the Temperature/HumidityControl Button [6], acknowledge your selection andproceed to the next parameter.

For optimum fan performance, Attic Breezerecommends beginning with a DepressurizationAlarm Threshold [27] setting of “2” pressure units. This alarm setting will ensure that your Attic Breezesolar attic fan is supplied with sufficient air intakeventilation to operate at maximum performance.

!

The Depressurization Test may be stopped at anytime by pressing the On/Off Button [8].

-16-

Depressurization Testing (continued)

At the end of the equilibrium period, the BreezeMate™ control system will collect pressure data toestablish a barometric pressure baseline. After thisdata is collected, the control system then starts all fansinstalled on the network, allowing the fans to operatefor a period of five minutes.

Expect slight changes in the ambient barometricpressure readings, even when your solar attic fanis not operating. Due to the extreme sensitivitydesigned into our pressure sensing technology, normal variations in the barometric pressure will beobserved during testing. For this reason, Attic Breezerecommends performing the Depressurization Testduring clear and sunny weather conditions to minimizeinterference from changes in barometric pressure.

!

At the end of this period, the control system onceagain collects pressure data. The values recorded forattic pressure, both during fan operation and without, are compared to determine the amount of atticdepressurization present. The result is then evaluatedto determine the final status of the test.

-17-

If your solar attic fan installation passes theDepressurization Test, the controller will exit the testprogram after 10 seconds and return to the maindisplay screen. A “passed” test indicates that yourattic has the proper amount of intake ventilation tosupport your ventilation system.

Please note that the Breeze Mate™ control systemdefaults to automatic mode off upon exit of theDepressurization Test. Automatic control must beturned on after testing to resume temperature andhumidity control.

!

If your solar attic fan installation does not pass theDepressurization Test, the Fan Icon [2] will beginblinking and the controller will remain in alarm modeuntil the depressurization alarm is acknowledged. Thedepressurization alarm may be acknowledged bypressing the On/Off Button [8]. A “failed” test indicatesthat your attic may not have the proper amount ofintake ventilation to support your ventilation system.

If your installation fails the Depressurization Test, check the following:

Run the test again to confirm the results.Changes in barometric pressure may effecttesting, resulting in a “borderline” test failure.

Verify that the Depressurization AlarmThreshold [27] value is set properly. If thealarm is set too low, atmospheric pressureinterference may adversely effect testing.

Make sure your soffits and other air intakevents are clear of debris and obstructions.

If needed, repeat the test using the nexthighest Depressurization Alarm Threshold [27]setting. A “passed” test at higher settings mayindicate the need for more air intake ventilation.
