New Carpeting for the Library Get those final hours of volunteering wrapped up for 2014-15 or get a jump start on 2015-16 by signing up to help with the re-carpeting project. This is going to take a lot of man-woman-

student power to move all the books and shelving out of the library to lay the new carpet. The tentative plan is to do this the last weeks of June. If you can help out, please send an email to Mrs. Ransom, [email protected]

Celebrate Anything! For Your Child!

The PFC is offering a special

“Celebration” package. You can

celebrate any event you like…braces off, an “A” on a test, passing the driver’s license exam, birthday…whatever! $40 will provide for a decorated locker door complete with balloons, a “Happy Birthday (name)” or “Congratulations” sign on the main bulletin board in the mall and a dozen cupcakes to share with friends at lunch.

Reservations and payment must be made at least one week in advance with Mrs. Goehring at [email protected].

Luncheon Tours for Prospective Families The Thursday Tour & Luncheon for prospective parents is MAY 21. If you know someone who is considering Brethren, why not tell them about this opportunity to learn more. It is 11:00am-12:30pm and includes a complimentary lunch. We do require an advance reservation.

Please direct them to the web page www.bchs.net and look under “Admission Events” on the right side column, for details and to RSVP.

- If you want to participate with

this great group, who do so much for

the school, the Parent Fellowship Council meets in the teachers’

workroom at 2:45pm on the second Wednesday of each month. The next meeting will be on Wednesday, May

13th. We will be making plans to ready ourselves for summer, book sales

and the new school year. We love to

have all our parents actively participating! This is an easy and fun way to fulfill your volunteer hours. If

you have questions, contact Mrs. Ransom at [email protected].

______________________________

Short on Volunteer Hours?

Your PFC purchased a Keurig coffee maker for the teacher’s lounge. Donations of a box of k-cups can count for one hour.

“Coffee - If you’re not shaking, you need

another cup!”

Attention Eagle Scouts or Gold Award Girl Scouts

We are planning to do a story in the next issue of Brethren magazine on our students who have or are in progress on earning these prestigious awards. If

this applies to your student, we would like to hear from you. Please contact Mrs. Ransom at [email protected]. This article will be written over the summer, so please contact her soon to be included.

IN-N-OUT Burger came to Brethren Christian!! ….and wasn’t it delicious? We raised $900 for our school and $375 for the In-n-Out Foundation to prevent child abuse… thanks to the generosity of the In-n-Out Burger Company. We also want to thank Mrs. Skarin and Mrs. Saari for all their hard work to make it a double-double success! _______________________________

Paving the Parking Lot We had expressed hope that we could re-pave the parking lot over the Easter

Vacation, but the City of HB had some permitting requirements to be fulfilled first. We are happy to report that we are in progress on those items and that we anticipate the project to begin shortly after school lets out. We are very grateful for your support in providing the means to accomplish this! _______________________________

High School Jazz Band Earns Top Honors at Reno Jazz Festival The Brethren Christian High School (Huntington Beach)“8 O’ Clock Jazz Band” took first place honors in the small high schools division at the Reno

Jazz Festival on April 25. Brethren’s group earned a “superior” rating from all three of the adjudicators on the panel, the only band in the division to do so. The seven bands in the division were from small high schools from California, Nevada and Washington. Director Len Montgomery, in his 26th year of teaching at Brethren Christian, said, “It’s an honor to win the division. It’s really icing on the cake after hearing the kids play and seeing the way they came

together to take their performance to the next level.”

Begun in 1962 as a high school jazz band competition (the

inaugural featured eight high schools, one middle school and one college band), the Reno Jazz Festival is held annually on the campus of the University of Nevada, Reno. This year’s festival featured over 300 performing ensembles ranging from middle schools to four-year colleges, and involved over 9,000 participants and 56 professional performers, clinicians and adjudicators.
