Kid’S dAY OuT (KDO) is a major event on the Central Coast,

targeting young children and their families.

It is a collaborative effort of a wide variety of organisations that are

united in their concern for the health and welfare of our children.

KDO began in 2000 on the Central Coast and continues to grow,

effectively providing families on the Coast with a support network.

Brian Hilton Motor Group took part in KDO 2013, a fantastic event

held Sunday 3rd November at Kariong Mountains High School.

There was lots of entertainment throughout the day, both educational

and fun events. Dora the Explorer sing-along kicked off the morning

with guest appearances throughout the day from local council

members, Central Coast Mariners football Club and Big Dog!

Healthy Harold turned up, the Book Mobile and not to mention

food stalls to thrill anyone’s appetite!

Brian Hilton was proud to associate itself with such a renowned

event on the Central Coast and look forward to many more

Getting to know youHi, my name is Andy Rushworth, I’m a

Ballroom Dancing.

My wife talked me into going Ballroom

Dancing about nine years ago and even

though I have two left feet, it was one

of the best things I have ever done! The

Central Coast has a very active Ballroom

Dancing scene with socials every week,

we not only have lots of fun, but it keeps

us fit and healthy and have made

wonderful lifelong friends.

After dancing for a few months we

thought we would test the waters and

enter dancing competitions, which to

our surprise we won a few and lost a

few more! With persistence and training,

today we are 2013 South pacific English

Oldtime Champions!

Dancing is for people of all ages, you

needn’t worry about making a fool of

yourself there is always someone to lend

a hand and get you going around the

floor. In no time at all you are up and

dancing like everyone else.

Brian’s Christmas fruit Mince piesIngredients: • 2 tbs brown sugar • 2 tbs brandy

• 1 small apple, peeled, cored, coarsely grated

• 85g raisins, coarsely chopped • 85g currants

• 85g sultanas • 60g glace cherries, coarsely chopped

• 115g (1/3 cup) breakfast marmalade

• 1/4 tsp mixed spice • 600g (4 cups) plain flour

• 80g (1/2 cup) icing sugar mixture

• 300g chilled butter, chopped • 2 egg yolks

• 4-5 tbs water • White sugar, to sprinkle

• Icing sugar, to dust

Preparation:Combine the brown sugar, brandy, apple, raisins, currants,

sultanas, cherries, marmalade and mixed spice in a bowl. Set

aside, covered, stirring occasionally, for 1-2 days to macerate.

place the flour, icing sugar and butter in the bowl of a food

processor and process until it resembles fine breadcrumbs.

Add the egg yolks and water, and process until the dough

just comes together.

Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead

until smooth.

preheat oven to 180°C. Roll out the pastry between 2 sheets

of non-stick baking paper until 3mm thick. Use a round 6.5cm

diameter pastry cutter to cut 40 discs from the pastry. Line

forty 30ml (1 1/2-tablespoon) capacity patty pans with the

discs. Use a fork to prick the bases.

Re-roll leftover pastry between 2 sheets of non-stick baking

paper until 3mm thick. Use a round 5cm-diameter pastry

cutter to cut 40 discs from the pastry. Spoon 1 heaped

teaspoon of fruit mixture into each pastry case. Top with

pastry discs. press edges to seal. Sprinkle with white sugar.

Bake for 30-35 minutes. Set aside for 15 minutes to cool

before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Dust the pies with icing sugar to serve.

Mars Bar Christmas CracklesIngredients: • 200g Mars Bars, chopped

• 2 tbsp of pouring (thin) cream

• 2 tsp cocoa powder, sifted

• 3 cups Rice Bubbles

• Canola spray

• 100g white chocolate

• 24 red Smarties or M&Ms

Preparation:Spray a little canola spray into 2 x 12 cup mini-muffin trays.

Melt the Mars Bars, cream and cocoa in a glass bowl over

simmering water. The bowl should not touch water. Stir the

mixture until smooth. put the Rice Bubbles in a separate

large bowl, pour in the chocolate mixture and stir until well

mixed. Spoon the mixture into the muffins tray and press

down gently. Refrigerate for 2 hours and turn out onto a

tray to decorate.

Melt the white chocolate in the microwave checking and

stirring it at 30 second intervals. pour it into a piping bag

while warm and snip the tip off. Turn the crackles upside

down and pipe the chocolate on. finish with a red Smartie

on top of each one.

A perfect camping holiday destination is Kwiambal National

park, one of the more stunning parks in north-west NSW, 90km

north of Inverell and approximately an eight hour journey

from the heart of the Central Coast.
