What’s the idea? We wanted to answer the question: what happens

after barcamps/bridgecamps? Our idea: organizing a Social Innovation Camp for

Central/Eastern Europe. The model originated in the UK in 2008 (http://sicamp.org)

Inviting people with ideas to meet people with skills A practical 2.5-day event focused on fast

development and deliverable results The winners get a prize AND connections with

people who are really interested in helping and working together as a team

What we’ve done in the past? Organizing trainings for people from NGO,

media organizations and activists Results:

What’s in the future?Social Innovation Camp: The Plan

Call for ideas will be announced in June An independent jury of people from the media, web

business, and non-commercial sector determines seven most original and practical projects

The seven teams, as well as interested web developers, designers, business people, whoever are invited for the Social Innovation camp in Bratislava on September 16-18

They get together, work in teams, and prepare a working prototype by end of the Camp. Two projects get the award and get full support, help and deep respect

Why do people do it?It’s your best chance to try doing a viable and cool

project for fun, outside of the job and working as a team with with some of the most creative and enthusiastic people from around the region and beyond. We’ll do our best to invite people from innovation labs, commercial companies, non-commercial sphere.

Who’s in already? Geeks, designers, usability experts, NGO people. Some of the people involved represent Mysociety (pledgebank.com, fixmystreet.co.uk), Opera Software, internetartizans.co.uk, Transitions online, and quite a few others..

Check some of the ideas that worked…

AccessCity: To develop a site to enable a user-generated view of London (in the first instance, but with the ability to be rolled out nationally and beyond) from an accessibility perspective. No such maps exist yet!

Owngrown: To bring together people who grow food in their home, allotment, small holding or farm with people who want to buy locally produced, natural, wholesome foods. Provide an easy to use, online marketplace.

The Good Gym: People all over the world run, jog and lift weights and achieve nothing particularly useful. The Good Gym aims to make it easy for people to channel this energy toward social good. The project will set up a framework for people to integrate brief visits to isolated older people and for delivery of useful items to good causes/ dependant individuals into their people's exercise routines.

Post Post: a service that makes stopping junk mail (PAPER MAIL, not email) through your letterbox as simple as blocking spam in your inbox. The benefit is for the municipalities, the local post offices, consumers, the environment, and businesses themselves.

Check some of the ideas that worked…

Enabled by design: People with disabilities don’t want to be treated differently, and they don’t want their apartments to look like hospitals. However, there is no way for them to provide feedback to companies that make hearing aids, crutches, other kind of equipment, and propose new solutions. Enabledbydesign.org is an online community that helps people to discuss these issues and propose new creative and fun ideas!
