Inspirational Introspection

Overheard at a Rotary Fellowship for Senior Citizens !!

Crazy Fellowship!

“I had serious hearing problems for a number of years.

I went to a Rotary Medical Camp. On their

recommendation, a doctor was able to fitted a set of

hearing aids that allowed me to hear 100% 'Your

hearing is perfect. Your family must be really pleased

that you can hear again.''Oh, I haven't told my family

yet. I just sit around and listen to their conversations.

I've changed my will three times!'

It is only during the fellowship, the real pulse of rotary

is brought out. One Rotarian, who was in high spirits,

declared, “I want to become the Governor! Can

anybody help me?” His friend asked him, “Are you

crazy?” He retorted, “Why? Is it necessary?”

Our ancient were so deeply intelligent that they chose to express Divinity

in terms of symbols rather than words, since words change over time, but

symbols remain unchanged. Let us keep the deep symbolism in mind as we

experience the omnipresent in the form of the elephant God, yet be fully aware

that is very much within us. This is the wisdom we should carry as we

celebrate (spiritual leader and

ROTARY INTERNATIONAL

INFORMATION

We recently returned from the RI Convention in Sydney, followed by athree week speaking tour which included visits with several Rotary friends. Many cannot imagine the power of Rotary connections that allowed us tohave this travel experience without using even one hotel room. You canshare this same experience, by joining a Fellowship like ITHF. It was a 32year mixture of Rotary activities that brought us back to Australia, thecountry of my 1977 Rotary introduction as a GSE Team Member. Includedthis time was a visit with ITHF member PDG Allan Church from Townsville,North Queensland as well as other Rotary friends. In Sydney we werehosted by our friend Geoffrey Little, whom we know through the Policeand Law Enforcement Fellowship. Next was Wagga Wagga to participate intheir Peace Ceremony and Dinner, in my role as Past Co-Chair of the RIPeace Community Program. In addition to John and Mary Egan, a COLColleague, and other Aussie friends, we had the benefit of sharing timewith previously known India friends who were on a Friendship Exchange. With a 32 year history of GSE, Friendship Exchange, Youth Exchange andFellowships activity, one cannot help but experience and enjoy worldwideRotary camaraderie and fellowship. I cannot imagine why theseopportunities often remain unknown to Rotary Club members I meet. Even

PERMANENT ROTARY PROJECTS

Friends cannot believe we travelleda month, without using a hotel.

those in my own club do not understand the concept of global home-hosting to the extent we enjoy. Our next stop was at Bendigo to catch upwith a former Exchange Student from 30 years ago. It was great to rekindleour relationship and catch up on her life experiences. What a delight to seeher flourishing and still reminiscing about her much appreciatedexperience in Canada, years ago. Melbourne followed as we visited aformer GSE friend, PDG Jenny Coburn. What a delight to see the Rotaryengagement Jenny has developed through the years and now to be hostinga weekly Rotary Radio program. This brings us to the ITHF connection andour new friend PDG Allan Church. When he heard we were coming to hiscity he promptly began to roll out the red carpet for our visit. Knowing ofour speaking activities, he starting by coordinating of a multi-club meetingwhich I spoke at. Through emails and conversations in Sydney, ourfriendship developed. Through his Rotary connections, we had a grandtime with his Rotary Club and other friends. As it turned out, we also had afamily friend in this city that helped host us. Together these chaps gave usthe royal treatment. So if you have the urge to travel and want to enjoy theopportunity to be with local native friends on an economical scale, thenour Rotary ITHF connection is the key to a great experience. If you don'tqualify for a GSE or Youth Exchange, you certainly can qualify for awonderful time through ITHF.

- PDG Douglas W Vincent, (RC Woodstock-Oxford - Past ROTI Chair)
