The Williams School works with each child to build and enduring
foundation for academic, moral and social success. A Williams School
student embodies integrity, confidence and a love of learning.
Dear Williams School Families,
Stepping up. The presence. The spotlights. The dialogue. The actors, actresses, and stage crew. Thedirection. The sets. The laughs in all the right places. The applause. The standing ovations. The relief. Thecurtain dropping and exit stage right. Duomars. The Williams School Musical.
It was amazing. Our production of Into The Woods was anything but in the woods. It was out there andproud. The extravaganza was put together within the span of only a month or so but one may have thought wewere rehearsing all year long. The students only had one shot; one performance for the community. And they
were such a hit. And I am so proud of all of them.
The flow of the production was so seamless; one could hardly notice that we had about five Jacks andmultiple performers taking on bits and pieces of the limited amount of roles. So why do we do that? Why notjust go for a few characters in number and let the chorus be filled? Why would our Director, Edna Broadhurst, cast so many children in so many short pieces of so many parts in the musical? Why would we place studentsin our seventh and eighth grade in positions of responsibility for technical direction, spot lights, set switches andproduction during the show? There just has to be a more efficient and streamlined way to do things, one maythink
How could teachers give up their time and rearrange all of their classes so that students could both practice for
the musical and attend all of their classes continuing our tradition of scholar-performer? How do so manyfaculty members tirelessly work before and after the production setting up and taking down everything soefficiently that the Chrysler Museum staff stands back in amazement?
Why would alumni continue to come back, year after year, to see 4th through 8th graders put on a schoolproduction? Why do parents and grandparents and friends from near and far make it a point to attend this oneshowing? And after the show, how is it that just about everyone ends up coming back together again to see andbe with each other at Doumars?
In a magnificent show like we had last night, this all happens because its in our school DNAWe are The Williams School and Everyone Plays.
My Best to You,
Jay
