    Week of May 9, 2011

The Williams School works with each child to build and enduring

foundation for academic, moral and social success. A Williams School

student embodies integrity, confidence and a love of learning.

    Dear Williams School Families,

What an amazing concert last night. The instrumentation and harmonious resonance filled Maurys auditoriumfor over an hour with the glorious sounds of our fourth through eighth grade bands. Karen Jackson did an

incredible job of preparing the students to perform for the nearly-filled house. Our kindergarten through thirdgraders also had their special role in singing a few tunes with the bands and ending the concert with our school

song. Its always so nice to sit back and embrace the good feelings and soul filling power that music and

performance music can have in our lives. I had a seat with Meg way toward the back and couldnt help butbeam throughout the entire performance. I know I left last night with a spring in my step and a few songs in myheart.

As we were driving home, we talked about the concert but my son pointed out that he thought it was, in his

words, weird that over the past week or so he had played for the school lacrosse team, participated in theregional forensics competition, played for his club lacrosse team, played his trombone in band, played a nice

role in the schools musical, participated in seeing two of our TWS students get awards for the Elie Wiesel

Writing competition at this years Yom HaShoah Holocaust Remembrance Day service on Sunday night (Aidanreceived first place, and Jacks sister, Maddie, received a third place prize), and continued doing all of his

    school work all the while.

I looked at Meg and smiled. He made a pretty insightful comment about all the opportunities he continues to bepresented with and of which he can take advantage. I glanced at Meg and we both smiled. We were proud of

our kids and savored about five short seconds of parental gloating in silence when my daughter slapped us backinto reality for the other back seat. Yea, but just about every other kid does the same thing or more at our

school, so its no big deal, Jack.

True enough, Jack said without skipping a beat.

And we all continued down Hampton in silence for a bit. The pause then lent its way to funny stories about the

day. Later, after the kids were in bed, Meg looked at me and smiled. I am thankful that we are able to give

this wonderful gift to our children--a real liberal arts life.

There are many opportunities that life affords you if you take advantage of them. At The Williams School I

have been proud and honored to help be part of giving to students and their families the gift of a liberal arts life.Have a safe weekend. See you Monday.

    Fondly,

    Jay
