The building is surrounded by sixfields, giving 12.5 acres of meadowland, which currently receive a grantfrom Natural England, as part ofthe programme to conserve uplandhay meadows and their wildflowers, and to protect rare migrant birds.
E X T E R N A L SGROUNDS AND LAND
The land could alternatively be used for grazing cattle, sheep or
horses, or for any other agricultural purpose.
The fields are marked by original dry stone walls (many recently
repaired) or post and rail, or post and wire fences, with wooden
gates erected in the last few years by the present owners.
ENTRANCE
The entrance at the top of Scrapers Lane is through a gate and
over a short rise which reveals the staggering view. A 100m
gravel drive leads from the gate to a car park for at least 6 cars,
guarded by an impressive sycamore tree. From here a hedge-
lined path leads to the cobbled yard at the rear of the house.
The yard features two original and traditional stone cattle
troughs, both recently renovated, and the storage tank for the
household water supply. Stone steps lead up to the rear fields.
AGRICULTURAL BUILDING AND GARAGE
Beside the cobbled yard is a large building of Yorkshire boarding
on a concrete base. This is currently used for machinery and
tool storage, but also lends itself to use as a garage or stable.
