    A f i red heater is general ly used to increase the temperature

    o f the prod uct a nyw here in the process . These uni ts can be

    rectangula r but a l so c i rcu la r shapes a re common.

    New f i red heaters can be comple te ly pre fabr i ca ted in the

    workshop and erected a t the job-s i te in a very short t ime

    In the past, heavy o i l res idues from crude o i l dist i l lat ion were

    only used fo r l ow leve l app l i ca t ions . The search fo r m ore

    eff icient use of o i l reserves has lead to the development of

    a process of cracking these res idues by means of a cata lyst.

    Due to the env i ronmenta l i s sues the need to reduce su lphur

    in fuels as wel l as in f lue gasses has become necessary.

    Most re f iner ies a re equipped w i th a so-ca l l ed su lphur

    recovery uni t . In this type of insta l lat ion, the acid gas is

    burned off in a furnace. Except hydrogen sulphide the f lue

    gas contains carbon dioxide, l ight hydrocarbons, ni trogen, etc.

    Am mo n i a is an impo r tan t raw ma te r i a l f o r p roduc i ng

    fert i l i zer. A s imi lar process is a lso used to produce Hydrogen

    for the Pet r o -ch emic a l i ndus t ry . For example , in an FCC uni t ,

    H2 is used to improve the cracking process.

    The Am m on ia o r Hyd rogen p lants have tw o ma in uni ts :

    pr imary re fo rmer and secondary re fo rmer which a re

    connected by transfer l ines. In primary reformer, the main

    process is heat ing o f the feeds tock. A f te r he at ing up the

    feedstock, i t is transported through the transfer l ines to the

    secondary re fo rmer.

    The process gas in this reformer is in di rect contact with the

    l in ing. Due to the co mp os i t i on o f the process gas , the l i n ing

    needs to consist of very high puri ty materia l . Both low i ron

    and low s i l ica refractory materia ls are therefore used.

    In a coke calciner, the f inal res idue of the ref inery process,

    Pet ro leum -coke, i s turned in to usab le carbon. Thi s carbon i s

    a key e lement in the product ion o f anodes fo r the a luminum

    industry. In principle, there are two types of coke calciners,

    the rotary ki ln and rotary hearth type. Described here is the

    ro tary hearth type .

    During the process, ca lcinat ion takes place in stages as

    the green coke moves s lowly through the progress i ve ly

    increas ing temperature zones f rom 150C up t i l l 1500C.

    In these typ e o f ins ta l l a t ions , there i s d i rect contact betwe en

    the product and the re f racto ry l i n ing fo r which Ca lderys has

    high temperature , abras ion res i s tant , h igh therma l shock

    res i s tant and chemica l res i s tant mater ia l s spec i f i c to each

    of the d i f fe rent temperature zones .

    The process gas in this reformer is in di rect contact with the

    l in ing. Due to the co mp os i t i on o f the process gas, the l i n ing

    O i l is in jected in a tubula r furnace . High temp eratur e o f

    up to 200 0C and a h igh ve loc i ty o f the gasses make th i s

    process very harsh for the refractory l ining.
