Here it comes again. Get ready! Barcelona presents the newest edition of the BAFF festival 2007. The festival of Asiatic cinema will be celebrated from the 27th of April until the 6th of May.

Another year the BAFF will indulge you with the best Asian cinema productions, with a selection of more than fifty movies, divided into different sections. In the Offi-cial section a contest will be held (in which the winners will take home the golden price of Durian), eleven movies will take part presented by Korea, Japan, Indonesia, China, Hong Kong and Malaysia.

The Asian selection presents itself with a variety of the best movies from different international film festivals, and counts on selected movies with the most recent works of old well-known names of the festival.

The Section D-Cinema, dedicated to the ci-nema in digital format and the most urgent and innovative proposals, grows conside-rably and occupies the “Espai cultural de Obra Social Caja Madrid”.

The Espacio Anime, free to enter in the halls of the CCCB, will present a program of short Japanese animated films, realized in cooperation with the cinema festival Nippon Connection of Frankfurt am Main.

The invited country of the BAFF 2007 is China. A very big country rich in old tra-ditions which in the last twenty years has become a prolific figure within the best of contemporary cinema and it has conquered his right of presenting itself in the interna-tional festivals, where it has gained very important prices.

The opening of the BAFF is on the 27th of April in the cinemas Aribau Club with a movie of Chinese director Zhang Lu, winner of the golden Durian price of the BAFF festival 2006 with his movie “Grain in ear”. His new movie, which Zhang Lu will present himself, named Desert dream (Hyazgar).

The closing of the BAFF 2007, which pre-tends to be an open party for all fans which have assisted the festival during the 10 days, will be held in the Espacio Movistar of the Forum Barcelona with a projection of a movie which is yet to be decided. The BAFF is a unique festival in Spain. It is the only one dedicated exclusive to the Asiatic cinema, which every day awakes more interest to the festivals non-speciali-zed and which has a wide, faithful follo-wing.

The edition of the BAFF 2006 was visited by more than 20.000 people.

STAYING LONGER IN bARCELONABarcelona is characterised by a mix of people, with different tastes and back-grounds and has a lot to offer: the beach, mountains, culture, parties, history, sport, Art…In such a wonderful place it’s not surprising that people get trapped and decide to stay longer and relocate to BCN, after spending just a few days on holiday. The incredible atmosphere is undeniable, but everything is not as easy as it seems. It won’t take long to notice that life here isn’t cheap.

Here are some tips in case you are thinking about staying longer in this city. One of the first things you should do to start your new life in Barcelona is get hold of your N.I.E (Foreigner Identification Num-ber). If you are from the EU you can get it in Pg. Joan Borbó, 32 in La Barceloneta (Mon-Fri, 9-13.30); if you are from outside the EU you’ll need to go to Av. Marqués de l’Argentera in Borne area (Mon-Fri, 9-17.30 and Sat, 9-14). In both cases you will be asked to bring 2 passport photos, your passport and a copy of it.You’ll also be looking for a place where to stay. It is definitely easier renting a room in a shared flat than not having your own place.Once you are settled you will probably be looking for a job. If your Spanish level is not that high, a good idea is to bring your CV to Irish Pubs or check for Call Centre jobs in your own language.

A good option for learning Spanish is to go to a reputable spanish lenguage school, we recommend you Barcelona Lingua. You also might think about buying a second hand bike. You can check online or go to any good bike shop like Budget Bike.If you need some more info check it out:www.loquo.comwww.barcelonaconnect.comwww.compartepiso.comwww.infojobs.netwww.lanetro.com21

Blow off a little steam with a week of eating, heavy drinking and celebrating crowds...then add dancing, bullfighting and cheap carnival rides in place of all that religion! The Feria de Abril is a great time to see what many consider the typical Andalucia - sherry, Sevillanas, toros, flamenco dresses and horses. Giving the people who live in the center a break after trampling through their streets for a solid week, the feria takes place on the other side of the river and breathes a little life into the neighbourhood of Los Remedios.La feria de Abril 2007 takes place from the 24th until the 29th of April. Having started as a little cattle fair in the Prado de San Sebastian during the 1840’s, the modern feria, moved to its new grounds of Los Remedios in the 1970’s, has a long history behind. By now the enjo-ying crowds of people are rather interested in celebrating than purchasing cows; having grown immensely in size and attraction this festive and fun-loaded event is a fun-paradise for everyone. The feria is essentially a small city erected for less than one week, consisting of lots of tents, known as casetas, hosted by groups of aristocra-tic Sevillana families, clubs, trade unions and political parties. Each caseta has its very own atmosphere and traditions. They invite to roam around and find the right vibe for you.At night time you are encouraged to drink, dance and enjoy until the sun rises to bless a new day of “fiesta”. It’s a good place and opportunity to be part of the Spanish life and festive spirit. As with all fairs expect higher prices for just about anything, and it is worth it organising accommo-dation beforehand.Officially the feria opens on Monday morning, when the “porta” (the door) is illuminated. Fried fish has become a traditional meal that night. Wasting no time people enter already just after midnight to set in motion “la gran fiesta”. On the

following Sunday the feria closes at midnight with a firework display.Epa travellers, if you are exploring Spain, head down to join this great event… pack your dancing shoes, find yourself a dancing partner (un/a gua-po/a) and get lost in the spirit of flamenco or the Sevillanas.

Useful Vocabulary for the April-FairCaseta: stall/tent at the fair.Fino: white wine from Jerez. Drunk cold, it is one of the primordial elements of the April Fair´s mare nostrum.Manzanilla: aromatic, dry white wine, produced in Andalusia.Rebujito: a refreshing cocktail with low alcohol content. Served in a jug with 1/3 manzanilla, 2/3 Seven Up and plenty of ice. Some people add fresh mintSevillanas: a type of flamenco dance specifically from Andalusia, an adaptation of the traditional Castilian seguidilla.Farolillo: green, white or red paper sphere cove-ring the light bulbs in the streets of the Fair and inside the tents.Papa: a personal situation arising when the limit of manzanilla, fino, or other liquids required to maintain the ideal level of “merriness” is passed. Continued repetitions of the “papa” turns the exhi-bitor into a Fair drunk. By Daniela
