Who’s driving the digital age, technology or people?

People aren’t just users, they are in the driving seat. The real importance of digital to business is not the emergence of new technology, it’s the empowering of people – employees, customers or consumers – to do amazing things.

We call this the digital possible – the amazing potential of digital to change not just businesses, but also communities, nations and the wider world.

Complex.Organisations are being creative in how they build their businesses by

bringing together people and technology. Digital transformation is complex. Each one faces a different

set of challenges.

Unique.Each organisation’s digital

transformation is unique. There is no off the shelf solution to digitise a business, whether that’s internal

transformation, customer experience or business growth.

Uncertain.Understanding, planning,

realising and evolving your digital possible is a challenge in a fast

paced world. The future is uncertain. CIOs need to adapt

and anticipate.

Cloud computing is now a critical enabler for enterprise IT delivery.

Page 7: BT Cloud Ecosystem

But it isn’t always straightforward.

Page 8: BT Cloud Ecosystem

• Microsoft Azure and Off ice 365 to foster improved collaboration across your business and to exploit market leading productivity tools.

• Amazon web services to access low cost infrastructure for test and development of your new business applications.

• Salesforce.com to access world-class sales and marketing CRM systems and tools to improveyour responsiveness to customer needs.

• HPE Helion for fast access to infrastructure services (IaaS) for development, testing and production workloads.

• BT Data centres for local private cloud solutions where the public cloud does not satisfy your specif ic compliance or regulatory needs.

• Your own data centres when information needs to be kept inside your organisational boundaries for reasons of sensitivity or data sovereignty.

When it comes to the cloud, one size doesn’t always f it all.

Why every cloud needs a network, and every network needs a cloud.

What capabilities makea network provider more attractive? What capabilities make a cloud provider more attractive?

Enterprises areincreasingly likely todiscriminate toward cloudservice providers withcombined data centre andnetworking orchestrationskills as their trustedbrokers across hybridclouds.

IT decision makers are looking for a common set of skills from their network and cloud providers.

We have secured two new contracts with the European Commission to deliver public and private cloud services across 52 major European institutions, agencies and bodies - including the European Parliament, the European Council and the European Defence Agency.

The customised, underlying technology platform meets the EU’s strict requirements in terms of compliance, security and privacy. It combines the speed and agility of public clouds with the control and security of private clouds.

The services will be hosted from several secure, geographically spread BT data centres within the European Union, ensuring both high resilience and guarantee that all customer data will remain within the Union. They will be integrated and managed from BT’s Compute Management System (CMS) – a single, federated portal which seamlessly delivers customers the IT services they need from anywhere in the world.

This is a milestone in our journey to be the leading global cloud services integrator, and demonstrates how we minimise the complexity, risks and costs for our customers as they move to the cloud. I’d like to take this opportunity to, once again, thank the EU for putting its trust in BT.”

CEVA Logistics is a global transportation company with operations in 170 countries. CEVA planned to rationalise its 17 worldwide data centres, including relocating a disaster recovery facility from third-party premises to a safer BT data centre site, both in the Netherlands.

This was no simple task. It involved the shift of around 26TB of critical business data. It was vital the migration went as smoothly as possible.

CEVA engaged the BT Advise Compute professional services team to ensure a smooth and healthy transition, who took responsibility for the whole project. BT planned and de-risked the work – then f lawlessly executed it over a single weekend with zero business impact. CEVA got a perfect move while the company got the platform it needs forfuture expansion.

Milton Keynes Council together with the Open University and BT, and other partners, had the bright idea of forming MK:Smart to accelerate the development of Milton Keynes as a smart city.

At its heart is the “MK Data Hub”, hosted by BT and built on our Compute Management System (CMS). A state-of-the-art data acquisition and management infrastructure capable of collecting large-scale city data relevant to how the city functions, the hub will make it possible to implement radical new solutions formanaging demand.

The MK: SMART project is expected to deliver up to 20 per cent in water savings, 50 per cent less traff ic congestion, a 2.8 per cent reduction in electric consumption and two per cent gas reduction.

BT received a TM Forum Excellence Awards in recognition ofthe project.
