FROM THE PRESIDENT Things are moving along normally for this time
of year and we expect things to pick up again around March when the weather starts getting better. If you haven’t taken time to look over the SICBA website, please do so because it won a Gold award in international competition earlier this year. The Legislature is in session and we are addressing the normal things that seem to come up each year. Some are good and some aren’t so good for the industry. But, you can rest assured the staff at BIAW is keeping tabs on bad legislation and locally we are contacting our representatives and senators on things that affect our industry and small business in the state.
SICBA is well and moving forward. We are in the process of taking bids for the materials and labor to completely re-side the SICBA building. The vinyl siding on the building is brittle and is showing a lot of wear so this year we budgeted to get it all replaced in order to protect the association’s asset for the future. Hopefully the work will start on the building in March.
We have started gearing up for the 37th Annual
SICBA Home and Garden Show to be held March 24 – 26, 2017 at the Skagit County Fairgrounds and I just wanted to bring it to your attention now so you can plan to attend.
We are really excited to be changing things a bit to include the kickoff night being Friday, March 24
th
from 5 to 7 PM. Make it a point to put this on your calendar now and plan to attend this great event. Never Kry will be playing music for your enjoyment and the food vendors will be open and operating to provide you with your dinner.
We aren’t building bird houses again this year but we are having a Lego® Build and contest for both children and adults. You need to contact Lianna at (360) 488-4079 if you want to participate because space is limited in this event, but it is free.
Many other things have changed for the Home and Garden Show this year. You just need to put it on your calendar and come enjoy an event your association works very hard to make successful each year. And, if you would like to help out, we are looking for volunteers to man the gates and various other things. I can guarantee it doesn’t include cleaning up!
Our next event is on February 21st at Ferguson
Bath Kitchen & Lighting Gallery in Burlington. Click Here Be sure to RSVP on line and plan to attend. If you cannot reserve on line, call the office at 360 488-4079 and we will take your reservation for you. We are trying to get everyone to use on line reservations and pay to make it more efficient for you and for staff at the door when you come to our events. Any questions about this, call Lianna at the number above. RSVPs are due by February 16
th.

Each SICBA member has their own special strength and talent to add to the association. Thank you! Thank you for your membership, for your recruiting efforts, for your participation, for supporting the Building Industry in your own way. “Get Involved and Grow your Business” – join a committee, attend a dinner meeting or networking event, participate in an education class. Our January Dinner was quite a success. Members from Whidbey asked that we have a regular meeting in Island County and have a speaker for the evening. So we did just that. We asked Gideon Cauffman who is the City of Oak Harbor Archaeologist to come and speak to us about inadvertent discovery of bones or other archaeology in our project sites. I was quite surprised at what is considered important and what is not. Gideon did a great job of introducing the many different aspects of discovery and how to deal with each one. Quite frankly, with his presentation and other training he is going to be
conducting at the SICBA office from 4 to 5:30 PM on February 9th
very well save a company a lot of money when digging on a site that could have some archaeological issues. If you are trained and know what to look for, you might not need an archaeologist on site and your project could very well move faster.
We continued our evening with the drawings and if Sterling Walls and More had been at the meeting they could have taken home the Membership Bonus Drawing pot of $250. But since they weren’t there, the pot will be $300 at our event on February 21
st at Ferguson Bath, Kitchen and Lighting Gallery. The Renewal drawing was won by DeVries Homes LLC
and they get one free dinner at our event on February 21st. Jay Roberts of Cascade Custom Homes and Design took
home the 50/50 drawing of $35. We are always trying to meet the wants and needs of our association through these meetings but we very seldom get any feedback or surveys returned to tell us what you want. Help us help you! Give us a call and let us know what we can do to get you to come to our dinner meetings or events that would be value added for you. We also know that sometimes we just need to relax and have an uneventful evening with friends where there isn’t a formal presentation of some sort. That is why we started doing after hours events in both counties. If you as members need training of some sort, I’m sure that can be accommodated and you might find that we can set up the training event for less than what you might have to pay in general. Of course there could be exceptions but for the most part, everything we provide is a little less that what it might cost elsewhere. Don’t forget to mark your calendars for February 21
st at Ferguson Bath, Kitchen and Lighting Gallery for our next event.
Click Here. This one is always fun and the folks at Ferguson always put on a great event and the food is always very good. We look forward to seeing you all there and be sure to make your reservations early at www.sicbaevents.com or call the office at 360 488-4078.

Hello fellow SICBA members! My name is Michael and I am the owner of Washington Glass King. We are a locally and family-owned auto glass company providing windshield repair and auto glass replacement services to Skagit, Whatcom, Island and parts of Snohomish counties. We would love the opportunity to earn your business and build a relationship that provides convenience and cost savings for your company! We are a preferred vendor with all major insurance companies and we also offer competitive cash prices and great rates for fleet accounts. We can work with you to set up a one-time repair or replacement service for 1 or more of your work (or personal) vehicles if you are in need of service right away, or we can set up regular on-site inspections to ensure that damage to your vehicles is repaired or replaced before it has a chance to get worse. Please give me a call at 360-783-6008 or email me at [email protected] to see how I can assist your business with your auto glass needs. We have been in business for nearly 4 years and have developed a reputation of having the highest quality workmanship and excellent customer service. I look forward to working with you soon!
