Congregation Beth Am (actually any Synagogue) fosters

the sense of community, fulfilling the mitzva of L’DOR

VA-DOR, creating a link to the next generation. We

become stronger as individuals when we are part of the

minyan, the religious Jewish community to celebrate

and to console, to uplift ourselves and to strengthen each

other. The purpose of religion is to connect people to

each other.

It is our responsibility to make sure Beth Am thrives by

balancing those activities that (a) spiritually enhance our

lives and (b) those "enabling" activities that pay the

bills. We know only too well how important it is to raise

enough money to support today's physical and fiscal

needs. With sufficient funds we keep the building clean,

to provide heat and light, and to engage personnel who

will keep track of what is going on, who will help to

educate both the young and the mature, and who will

help to fill our lives with meaning and purpose.

The vision of what Beth Am should strive for includes

the mitzva of making ordinary people feel extra–

ordinary because they feel themselves part of something

significant.

It is in the Synagogue that ordinary people become

significant by being charitable, studying, supporting the

activities of the Sanctuary, and speaking positively when

talking about others in our congregational family.

We are forever mindful that our children are watching

our involvement in the congregation:

Do we treat each other with dignity regardless of

political affiliation, sexual orientation, skin color,

and religion?

Do we understand that charity begins at home, and

that we support our own congregational family?

Do our children see that we continue to hold

membership even if we do not feel the need to

bring children, or to attend worship services, or to

participate as a lay leader?

Many years from today, wherever they might be, we

hope our children will be part of a congregation because

we knew the answers to these incredibly important

questions of survival, enhancement and vision.

Belonging to a Synagogue – and participating in the

congregation’s life – is not only the healthy thing to do,

it is the right thing to do.

With both long-term projects and one-time events, there is something for everyone! We Need You!!! Get involved by choosing one, two or all projects! Join us for a meeting to schmooze, nosh, and brainstorm ideas regarding current and ongoing projects. For additional information, please get in touch with any of the contacts listed below.

Book & Movie Club - Thursday, February 19th @ 7p.m.

February is movie night again. We have a very interesting movie

titled “ The Jewish Cardinal”. This is the true story of Aaron Lustiger,

who was born in Paris to Polish-Jewish immigrants. At the age of

thirteen, he became Jean-Marie Lustiger when he converted to

Catholicism. During WWII, his parents were sent to Auschwitz where is

mother perished. He “maintained his cultural identity as a Jew even

after converting to Catholicism.” He later joined the priesthood.

“Quickly rising within the ranks of the Church, Lustiger was appointed Archbishop of Paris by Pope

Jean Paul II - and found a new platform to celebrate his dual identity as a Catholic Jew, earning him

both friends and enemies from either group. When Carmelite nuns settle down to build a convent

within the cursed walls of Auschwitz, Lustiger finds himself a mediator between the two

communities - and may be forced at last to choose his side.”

We will meet at the home of one of our members on Thursday February 19th at 7 PM.

Anyone who is interested may join us at any time.

For more information please email : [email protected].

Looking forward to seeing you!

Lee Karlinsky, the youngest of Paul and Erica Kalinsky’s

three children, is a seventh grader at Lake Mary Preparatory

School.

He is Vice President of the National Junior Honor Society,

plays football, and often lends his voice to the morning

news. Lee spends much of his down time acting in theater,

films and commercials, traveling to auditions, attending

acting workshops, as well as embracing every opportunity to

perform magic.

In addition to his parents and siblings, Jacob and Nina,

celebrating his simcha with him will be his grandmothers

Sandy Cohen and Vivian Karlinsky, and many proud aunts,

uncles, cousins and friends.

Michael Joseph Finkelstein, son of Drs. Kim and Howard Finkelstein, is a 7th grade honors

student at the Jewish Academy of Orlando. Michael enjoys playing the piano, fishing, and

spending time with his family and friends, especially his best canine friend, Cody. Michael

has a great sense of humor and delights in making people laugh. He also loves to travel and

has always been fascinated with airplanes. He hopes to someday earn his pilot's license.

Sharing in the family's simcha are his brother, Joshua; grandparents, Gen and Thane Engel

from Lake Mary, and family and friends from Central and South Florida, Illinois, Missouri,

and New Jersey.

Ella Rachel Colley , the

daughter of Robyn and

Kevin and the older sister

of Benjamin, is in the 7th

grade at Rock Lake Middle

School. She enjoys being

on the Yearbook staff and

playing in the Advanced Band. She was recently inducted

in the National Beta Club.

In addition to her school-related activities, Ella loves

baking! At the age of 10 she started a business called Life

Is Sweet Cupcakes by Ella! She practices with new recipes

and makes the most delicious and creative

cupcakes! As a part of her Mitzvah project, Ella taught a

cupcake decorating class at Chambrel, a senior citizen

community. We are very excited to welcome family and friends from all

over the country, including New Jersey, San Diego, Seattle,

Arkansas, Kansas, Atlanta, and South Florida and Virginia

to help us celebrate Ella’s Simcha. We would also like to

thank Rabbi Rick, Dr. Neal Silverstein, and Mr. Tim for their

tireless efforts in guiding Ella to this amazing day!
