Term 2 - Week 10 26 June 2015

Principal’s Message

“What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us”

Oliver Wendell Holmes

We have reached the end of the term, and while it has been extremely busy, it has been an incredibly enjoyable and rewarding term for me and the school as a whole. We have seen our students progress and develop their knowledge and skills in a range of areas. We have also seen some of our students face significant personal challenges and overcome them as they become healthier, stronger and more resilient.

Next term we welcome back Mal as Principal after his holiday. I would like to take this opportunity to say it has been my absolute privilege to lead the school this term. We are blessed with an incredible school and community, from our students, parents and carers and their families, to our wonderful staff. I count myself as very fortunate to be a part of such a dynamic and progressive environment where we are all striving to provide the best possible education for our students. I would like to thank our entire school community for your generous and thoughtful support throughout the term. A special mention of thanks goes to our fantastic Assistant Principals, Trish Carr and Martin Courtney, who have had a busy term supporting staff, students, and families. While I am, and always will be, a teacher who loves nothing more than to be in the classroom, I am going to miss being in the Principal role and the flexibility it allows me in working with, and supporting, every student in the school, and every parent.

And finally, it is with mixed feelings that we say goodbye to one of our amazing and creative teachers, Bryanna Taylor. While we are all very sad to see Bree go, she is heading off to Melbourne to start some new challenges and adventures as a teacher and artist. It is a very exciting (and sad) time for Bree. We wish her all the very best for her move and her future. We will all miss you Bree.

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability Notification for Parents and Carers

From 2015, all Government and non-Government schools across Australia are required to participate annually in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). All Australian schools will collect data on their students who are receiving adjustments to meet additional learning and support needs in accordance with their obligations under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and Disability Standards for Education 2005. This data will be provided to the Australian Government to assist in the development of a consistent, national picture of the education needs of students with disability. The data provided to the Australian Government by the NSW Department of Education and Communities is provided in such a way that it cannot be used to identify any individual student or school. General information about the national data collection can be found on the Australian Government Department of Education and Training website at http://education.gov.au/fact-sheets-nationally-consistent-collection-data-school-students-disability. Privacy Protection

The NSW Department of Education and Communities follows the requirements of the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 and the Health Records and Information Privacy Act 2002. Schools will collect, record, store and use data about individual students in line with these requirements. Data security and protection is a priority and students’ personal details will be kept confidential. Under Clause 52 of the Commonwealth Australian Education Regulation 2013, data collected by the NSW Department of Education and Communities for the NCCD must be provided to the Australian Government Department of Education and Training. This includes the number of students at each level of education, the number in each category of disability and the number at each level of adjustment. The information is provided to the Commonwealth as a series of number sets that cannot be used to identify any individual student or school. The Australian Government Department of Education and Training follows the requirements of the Commonwealth Privacy Act 1988 when handling any data provided by NSW Department of Education and Communities in connection with the national data collection. A privacy notice has been developed to by the Australian Government to provide students, parents and carers with important privacy information in relation to the data collection. This notice is available on the department’s website at http://education.gov.au/notices

If you have any questions about the data collection please do not hesitate to contact the school.

Class 2 NewsClass 2 News

This week students have been busy singing number and phonic songs and have made lollipops as part of the literacy focus on the letter L.

Every Monday Class 2 eagerly participate in swimming with Dean. Swimming lessons are part of the PDHPE curriculum and provide the opportunity for students to learn essential skills whilst engaging in fun exercise. We have also been learning to blow bubbles, submerge their heads under water and move through water confidently. It is great to see students relaxed and comfortable in the water with big smiles on their faces!!
