President’s Message Colombo Club Auxiliary
President’s MessageOur Mother’s Day dinner celebration on May 16 was a time to honor all the mothers. It was a beautiful occasion that was well attended. I would like to thank our chair lady Lucille Barengo, who did an awesome job planning this event. Special thanks to all the Auxiliary members who donated incentive gifts, helped set up the tables and sold raffle tickets. I so appreciate your continuos support you give for our dinners.
Our joint Pizza Night on Friday June 14, 2019 is a fun family event. You won’t want to miss the famous World Pizza Champion Tosser Tony Gemignani. The kids will love it! The dinner will include homemade pizza, along with salad, pasta, and meatballs, dessert will be root beer floats and ice cream sundaes that will be served by the Auxiliary. Adults $18, children 6 to 12 yrs., $9 and ages 5 and under, free. *Please note that there will be no special food requests, at this dinner.* Make your reservations by calling the Club at (510) 653-9020 ext. 304. Reservations must be received by June 10th, by 6 pm. No host cocktails: 6 pm, dinner and festivities start at 7 pm.
It is so hard to realize that summer is just around the corner. The year is passing by so quickly. Unfortunately the Auxiliary has had to say good bye to some of our dearest members. Diana Pagano, who was a 50-year member and also our Treasurer for 10 years;. plus Anna Alberti who was a member for 24 years. We also remember Mary Pandolfo’s husband Louie, who recently passed away. May they all rest in peace and may their families find comfort knowing their loved ones will watch over them.
Our next general meeting is June 19, 2019 at 7 pm in the Isabella Room. Join us for refreshments before our meeting. I look forward to seeing all of you.
Best wishes,Yvonne Guidi-Evans, Auxiliary President
It’s amazing to think that we have gone through half the year already. June is now upon us! Time seems to just fly by. This makes me want to thank all the Club members that have been active with Club functions. Making meetings, coming to birthday dinners, family dinners and work parties. A greatly appreciated Thank You! Grazie! for helping make your Club the best in the country. Un grazie molto apprezzato per aver contribuito a rendere il tuo club il migliore del paese. Don’t let time slip by, jump on board. It’s Fun. Thanks all that attended the Assembly Dinner on May 21st. We had a record attendance.
Pizza Night is coming June 14th The world-famous Tony Gemignani will be in attendance this year to toss pizzas – an experience you cannot miss. Bring the whole family, and enjoy tossing, and creating your own pizza.
June is “Father and Son Sports Nights.” The Club has recently installed a new 12’ screen to project our favorite sports on the giant screen. It makes you feel like you are at the game. Bring your son and see the new attraction. By the way, the menu is the clubs fabulous Spaghetti and Meatball dinner. If for no other reason grab your son, and his friends and make a memorable night of it. Se per nessun altro motivo afferrare il vostro figlio ei suoi amici e fare una notte memorabile di esso.
Make sure you make a reservation to get in on the Bocce Ball Tournament June 1, at the newly remodeled Martinez Marina Park. It’s a great day of fun no matter what your skill level is. Come out and enjoy the festivities. Thank you, John and Dave Nardi for making this event better and better every year. The Nardis have been dedicated and active members for many years. Without them our club would not be the same. Thank you for being who you are. I hope all our members show their appreciation for your love and dedication to the Colombo Club. I greatly appreciated it. Grazie per essere chi siete, e spero che tutti i nostri membri dimostreranno il loro apprezzamento per il vostro amore e la dedizione al Colombo Club. È molto apprezzato da me.
We are getting closer and closer to our 100th Anniversary. Make sure you buy your tickets early for the 99th Anniversary Party. Tickets for the 100th will be limited, since we have 1000 members and only room 500 for that historic event. (100 years – Amazing!) This is quite an accomplishment for the Colombo Club and one we all should be proud of. 100 anni incredibile questo è un bel traguardo per il Colombo Club uno che dovremmo tutti orgogliosi di.
I’m proud to be your President and, by the way, having a lot of fun.
Thank You!! Grazie, Grazie

IF YOU SEE SOMETHING,
SAY SOMETHINGThe safety of the Colombo Club is every member’s responsibility. If
you see something that you think is just not right or unsafe, report it

BRINGING ANY KIND OF LIQUOR INTO THE CLUB OTHER THAN WINE, IS STRICTLY AGAINST CLUB POLICIES.
We have had several incidents lately that have been a cause for
concern. A major concern is the safety of all attendees at Colombo
Club events. We have had to escort guests out of the Club before
during and after Club events who have been drunk, sick and unable
to control themselves. We have also found liquor bottles that were
brought into the Club under the dining room tables after the dinners.
We have kept the cost of our drinks at the bar as low as we can. We
have been reluctant to raise the cost of the dinners and yearly dues.
There is no reason to bring beer or liquor into the Club. Bringing
wine to the Club is an exception since it has been a Club tradition
that dates back to 1920 and we have no problem with members
bringing in their own wine.
Running a social Club of 1000 members does have its costs, but the
cost of being sued for negligence, because we did not pay attention
to guests who are drinking too much or creating a dangerous
situation is something we need every member to pay attention to.
Please be responsible not only for your guests, but be aware of
what is going on around your table, in the Club room and in the
ballroom.
So if you see something, say something. Tell somebody who is an

Make it a point to help us continue to make the Club a safe place
for every guest.

Bocce e Pizza – Davvero!!
I Classici Italiani!
Che bello! What a great start to summer! Kind of like baseball and hotdogs for America!
First off, registration is forming for the upcoming Colombo Club Bocce Days hosted by the Nardi brothers on June 1st and August 24th at the Martinez Bocce Federation Courts, a big East Bay center of the sport. The Federation has 15 courts and is the largest Bocce Federation in the country with over 2300 members! This year’s edition promises the fun of past years, and marks its 9th anniversary. In addition, all will appreciate a new experience at the Bocce Courts as the grounds and facilities have been renovated with expanded parking and improved landscaping and public areas.
Dave and John Nardi invite you to spend a relaxing day playing bocce, eating, and socializing with other Colombo Club members and guests. No bocce experience is necessary. Bring a team of four, come with someone else, or
come alone and we will place you on a friendly team. Men, women, families, kids and guests are welcome. Please see the separate reservation form enclosed in the newsletter.
Second, we have the famous Pizza chef, Tony Gemignani joining us on Friday night, June 14 for pizza night. This not to be missed, special event has it all! It is a family-friendly get together featuring Tony’s famous pizza, a pizza tossing demo, wine tasting for adults, and even a soda fountain for the kids!
Who is Tony Gemignani? I was gifted Tony’s book, The Pizza Bible, after rave reviews of last year’s event. It is truly a “bible” on pizza; a comprehensive, artisanal cookbook that Tony autographed and noted, “Respect the Craft.” This fittingly based on his philosophy as noted in this excerpt from the introduction to his book, “...what I can tell you for sure is that pizza doesn’t come down to just recipes or formulas. It’s a craft.”
Tony is the chef and owner of seven restaurants including Tony’s Pizza Napoletana, Tony’s Coal-Fired Pizza, Capo’s in San Francisco, Pizza Rock in Las Vegas and Sacramento, and Slice House in Walnut Creek. He’s also the co-owner of the International School of Pizza in San Francisco. Tony has been making pizza for more than twenty years and holds an impressive set of awards. We are thrilled to have him join us for this fun filled event. Be ready for some true, authentic pizza; my mouth is watering as I write this!
These are just two more fine examples of our cultural heritage at our Club today. Make your plans and enjoy with family and friends of all ages! Tutti in grande famiglia! (All as a big family!) Sempre Avanti!
