BURMESE ASTROLOGY INTRODUCTION Mahabote is an astrological method that has originated in the convents of Burma. This method is not very well known in the world. However, compared to other astrological methods it has some advantages. These are some characteristics of Mahabote: 1. You do not need a birthtime to make a Mahabote chart. This makes it possible to make a chart analysis also for people who do not have their time of birth. 2. Mahabote uses the planets but not a particular zodiac. The Mahabote chart is mainly dependent upon the year somebody is born and the day of the week. 3. It is a technique that makes it possible to prescribe effective remedial measures. It also offers a form of predictive astrology. There is even a form of Mahabote that can be used to answer questions (horary astrology). 4. The Burmese call Mahabote " the small vessel". Although it gives interesting results you cannot compare a Mahabote analysis with a full Vedic or Western chart analysis. Mahabote gives a summary of the energy patterns of a chart. Vedic and Western Astrology offer more details. CALCULATING THE MAHABOTE CHART To calculate a Mahabote chart you use the following method:. 1. Take the year of birth, for example 1985. 2. If the person is born on or before April 15 you subtract 639 from the year of birth. If the person is born after April 15 you subtract 638. The reason for this is to bring the Western birthdate into harmony with the traditional Burmese calendar.

BURMESE ASTROLOGY

INTRODUCTION

Mahabote is an astrological method that has originated in the conventsof Burma.

This method is not very well known in the world. However, compared toother astrological methods it has some advantages. These are somecharacteristics of Mahabote:

1. You do not need a birthtime to make a Mahabote chart. This makes itpossible to make a chart analysis also for people who do not havetheir time of birth.

2. Mahabote uses the planets but not a particular zodiac. The Mahabotechart is mainly dependent upon the year somebody is born and the dayof the week.

3. It is a technique that makes it possible to prescribe effectiveremedial measures. It also offers a form of predictive astrology. There is even a form of Mahabote that can be used to answer questions(horary astrology).

4. The Burmese call Mahabote " the small vessel". Although it givesinteresting results you cannot compare a Mahabote analysis with a fullVedic or Western chart analysis. Mahabote gives a summary of theenergy patterns of a chart. Vedic and Western Astrology offer moredetails.

CALCULATING THE MAHABOTE CHART

To calculate a Mahabote chart you use the following method:.

1. Take the year of birth, for example 1985.

2. If the person is born on or before April 15 you subtract 639 fromthe year of birth. If the person is born after April 15 you subtract 638.

The reason for this is to bring the Western birthdate into harmonywith the traditional Burmese calendar.

3. Suppose the person of this example is born on February 20. Then youmake the following calculation: 1985 - 639 = 1346.

4. Next you divide this value by 7. Suppose we divide 1346 by 7. Theoutcome of this is 192. The remainder will be 2 (192 * 7 = 1344).

5. You should only look at the remainder, which in this case is 2.This value decides which planet appears in the first house of theMahabote chart.

Page 2: Burmese Astrology

If the value is 2 (like in this example) the Moon will be in the firsthouse. If the value is 1 this will be the Sun, if the value is 3 Mars, if thevalue is 4 Mercury, if the value is 5 Jupiter, if the value is 6Venus, if the value is 7 or 0 the planet in the first house will beSaturn.

6. If we have the planet that appears in the first house it is easy todecide which planets appear in the other houses..

Mahabote knows the following order of planets:

Sun - Mercury - Saturn - Mars - Venus - Moon - Jupiter.

If the Moon appears in the first house, then Jupiter will be in thesecond, the Sun in the third, Mercury in the fourth, Saturn in thefifth, Mars in the sixth and Venus in the seventh house (see the chartbelow).

The birthday planet has a special place in Mahabote analysis. Supposesomebody has been born on a Thursday, in that case the birthday planetwill be Jupiter (for Monday it will be the Moon, Tuesday Mars,Wednesday Mercury, Friday Venus, Saturday Saturn, Sunday the Sun). Inthe Mahabote chart the birthday planet will be underlined.

Exception: If somebody is born on a Wednesday after 12.00 then thebirthday planet will not be Mercury but Rahu (also called the NorthNode in Western Astrology). In the Mahabote chart Mercury will bereplaced by Rahu

The grey houses are houses that cause problems on one way or another. Here is a short analysis of these houses in the example chart.

House 2: The House of Extremity is the house of all or nothing.Planets that are in this house tend to manifest in an extreme manner. In this case Jupiter is found in the House of Extremity. It ispossible that the person manifests his views (falls under Jupiter) inan extreme manner. It is also possible that he manifests his need onbroadening his horizon in an extreme manner. For example: making manytrips. Because Jupiter is the birthday planet this house is veryimportant for the person.

House 1: The House of Impermanence: Planets that are placed in thishouse tend to manifest themselves in an impermanent way. The Moon hasto do with the mother, the environment, emotions. All these contentsare unstable. The Moon has to do with the mother, the environment, emotions. It is possible that the person has difficulties to deal withhis emotions or that the home environment causes problems.

House 6: The House of Sickly. This is the most difficult house of thechart. In this house we find the biggest problems. In the examplechart we find Mars, the planet of manliness, power and energy in thishouse. This can mean that somebody has problems with manliness, powerand energy. Planets that are in this house may cause diseases. In thatcase the person is sensitive to diseases that have to do with Marslike inflammation.

The green houses have a more positive meaning. You will find a shortanalysis of those houses below:

House 3: House of Fame: This house shows how the person is known. Inthis case we find the Sun in the House of Fame. It is possible thatthe person is known as a leader. Suppose we would have had the Moon inthe House of Fame. In that case the person would be known as being

Page 4: Burmese Astrology

caring and sensitive. This house shows how somebody appears to the world.

House 4: House of Wealth: This house gives information on what makes aperson happy. With Mercury in house 4 communication and thinking(which fall under Mercury) makes the person happy. Suppose we had theMoon in house 4, in that case taking care for others would make theperson happy.

House 5: House van Kingly Position: This house shows the goals of aperson. It shows what he tries to accomplish, but he will neversucceed, at least not in his own eyes. The person in this examplewants to structure his life (structuring falls under Saturn). However,it is very questionable whether he will succeed in his own eyes.Suppose another person has the Sun in house 5. In that case the personwill try to be a leader, but he will have a hard time trying toaccomplish that.

House 7: House of the Leader. This house gives information on whatmotivates a certain person and what his or her talents are. In thisexample the person will be motivated by beauty and kindness(characteristics of Venus.

On the basis of this example have we seen that Mahabote is capable ofgiving an interesting analysis of the personality. However, Mahabotehas more possibilities.
