ITs a bit of a downer but thereis a space conundrum that hasthe French searching for asubterranean solution.

Paris authorities are mullingover a plan to extend the iconicEiffel Tower.

Not upwards because it wouldspoil the French capitalsgeometry, but downwards!

Officials say its not possible tobuild at ground level as youhave to respect the line of sightbetween the Ecole Militaire andthe Trocadero, two landmarkswith which the tower is aligned.

The solution might be a two-storey underground extensionwhich would house ticketbooths, a museum, a childrensarea and other visitor amenities.

SCEC closes end of 2013 THEREs many a slip betweenthe cup and the lip and the brainand the keyboard, so thesentence in yesterdays BEN -Motor Show finds home - thatthe SCEC would close at the endof the year, should have read atthe endof nextyear.

    As ithasbeen

pointed out, there is quite a bit of confusion in the industry aroundthe closure topic.

However, it is definitelybusiness as usual for the Centreand 2013 promises to be quite abusy year.

    MEETINGS TAKES AIME

I was a hosted buyer atMeetings 2012 last week.

Its a great show, wellorganised and with nopretensions to be something itsnot.

In my opinion its the best C&Itrade show in the southernhemisphere.

Its purpose, first andforemost, is to showcase NewZealand product for themeetings industry, as its namesuggests.

There are no seminars of anydescription and the number of exhibitors doesnt exceed adelegates ability to visit themall in two days.

Why cant Reed manage thatwith AIME, or if not why notextend it to another day?

Yes, its a smaller show thanAIME and the talented teamthat puts it all together hasbeen doing so for a while but

nevertheless it makes ReedExhibitions look very amateurishif AIME this year was the best itcould do.

Air tickets were delivered wellahead of travel dates - even tothe far flung outposts of Asia -hotel accommodation wasconfirmed and third partyinvitations issued with plenty of time to spare.

I saw a couple of ReedInternational spies lookinglongingly (or was that myimagination?) at the ease withwhicheverythingdovetailedtogether.

MaybeCINZ shouldsuggest toMCVB thatits time forchange.
