Chapter 2: Initiate Identity Hub™ Reports overview

OverviewThe Initiate Identity Hub™ has long adhered to the founding development principals of being

the fastest, most accurate and most scalable Enterprise Master Patient Index (EMPI) orCustomer Data Integration (CDI) solution in the marketplace. The Initiate Identity Hub™ iscapable of handling thousands of users, accessing and transacting with hundreds of millions ofrecords, in a production environment with sub-second response times. Reporting on orinterrogating the information in the Initiate Identity Hub™ is often a critical organizationalrequirement and commonly occurs in an offline or non-transactional manner.

Initiate Systems set out to develop a reporting infrastructure that could be leveraged by themost popular reporting and analytic tools available and create the extended value of offloadingprocessing requirements from a production environment. As such, the Initiate Identity Hub™Reports can be run on a separate environment, freeing valuable processing capabilities fromthe production environment while providing the right information to your organization.

The Initiate Identity Hub™ Reports interface is designed to work in concert with the

BusinessObjects XI business intelligence (BI) portal, InfoView. Using scheduled extracts of theInitiate™ database, Initiate Identity Hub™ Reports collects, consolidates, and presentsinformation to your web browser about activity occurring within the Initiate™ software. Becausethis information is accessed via your corporate intranet, the application does not require anyinstallation on user workstations.

Basic Concepts

TerminologyTo understand the basic concepts behind the Initiate Identity Hub™ Reports, as well asBusinessObjects XI, let’s review some of the terminology you may encounter.

BusinessObjects XI repository:The BusinessObjects XI repository is a collection of tables that provide secure access to yourReporting Database’s data and a deployment infrastructure for applications. It is central to anyBusinessObjects XI deployment and holds, among other things, user security information andpublished reports. The repository is a separate entity from the Initiate™ database and theReporting Database.

Reporting database:The reporting database is a separate database created to store calculated data facts about thecore data available in the Initiate Identity Hub™ software database. Creation of a reportingdatabase enables efficient reporting and ensures that the Initiate Identity Hub™ software

performance is not affected. The reporting database is populated by using the Initiate IdentityHub™ Manager Extractor component.

Initiate™ database:The Initiate™ Database is a database created as part of the Initiate Identity Hub™ installationprocess to store the core data used by the Initiate Identity Hub™ software.

Reporting solutionThe goal of the new Initiate Systems™ reporting environment is to create a solution that iseasier to use, maintain and deploy. Benefits include the ability to:

► Execute static or dynamic reports when needed or on a scheduled basis

► Extend the standard Initiate™ Report offerings (listed below)

► Display and communicate information contained in Initiate Identity Hub™ in newways

► Create or enhance the Initiate Identity Hub™ solution with new company-definedreports

► Leverage a commonly-used, industry-standard reporting solution

► Leverage companies’ current investment and skills in BusinessObjects XI

► Create a common standard for new reporting environmentsThe Initiate Systems solution can be thought of as a reporting infrastructure; the InitiateIdentity Hub™ is the feed system of a separate installable and maintainable reporting solution.

In the overall picture, the Initiate Systems reporting solution is represented by:► Initiate Identity Hub™ Manager Reports and Initiate™ Auditor Reports, which provide

information about the activity within the Initiate™ software and the tasks performedin Initiate™ Auditor. Initiate Identity Hub™ Manager Reports are part of the baseInitiate Identity Hub™ software package. Initiate™ Auditor Reports are distributed tothose who purchase Initiate™ Auditor.

► Initiate™ Data Profiling Report Pack, which is a separately-licensed report package, consisting of reports and metadata designed to provide statistical information aboutthe core data available in Initiate Identity Hub™ software.

The Initiate Systems reporting solution is a logical extension of the Initiate™ softwarearchitecture as depicted in the following illustration.

Figure 1. Initiate Reporting Architecture

As seen above, the Initiate Identity Hub™ Reports architecture is designed to run on a separatephysical computer. While this is the recommended environment, it is possible—if the properversions of java are installed—to run it on the same server machine as the Initiate IdentityHub™ software. This installation document covers only the recommended scenario.

Conceptually, the reporting architecture has four main components;

► The extraction service – used to extract identity data from the Initiate IdentityHub™.

► The reporting database – used to store the extracted data from Initiate IdentityHub™.

► The reporting universe – used to define the data stored within the reportingdatabase.

► The specific reporting functionality – includes specific reports and the reportexecution engine.

The basic steps for creating the Initiate Identity Hub™ Reports environment are:

1. Install, configure and run the Initiate Identity Hub™ software (Initiate Identity Hub™,Initiate Hub Manager™ and Initiate Auditor™). These steps are presumed to have beencompleted.

2. Install and configure the extractor service (extractor and scripts).3. Run the extractor service to perform the initial data extraction.4. Set up scheduled extractions in the Initiate Hub Manager™.5. Install and configure the appropriate reporting package, such as BusinessObjects XI.

Extraction processThe extraction process copies certain data from the Initiate™ database to a reporting database, allowing users to view and use the data in ways that meet their reporting needs. More detailedinformation on performing the extraction is provided in the Initiate Identity Hub™ Reports andReport Packs Installation and Configuration Guide and Initiate Identity Hub™ Manager UserManual .

The reporting extraction process requires an environment composed of two databases (anInitiate Identity Hub™ software database and a reporting extract database), and attendantscripts that copy the data from Initiate Identity Hub™ database into the reporting database andgenerate information about the data.

The BusinessObjects XI environment is a set of database tables that internally describe areporting extraction, plus a set of reports Initiate Systems provides in order to create astandard means of viewing the extraction data. The complete environment is generated tosimplify the Initiate data relationships, making reports easier to create.

Figure 2. Initiate Reporting Database Architecture

The universe (metadata layer) is pre-defined for the database vendor used and instantiated as

part of the Initiate Identity Hub™ Reports install process. All of the task-based (Initiate™Auditor) and Data Profiling reports that are supplied by Initiate Systems obtain theirinformation from this layer. Any new reports generated through the BusinessObjects XI customreporting tool also require the universe.

The underlying reporting database is represented by tables and views. Thus, reports may begenerated by any reporting or SQL access tool through direct connection to the reportingdatabase. However, while the information is simpler than the Initiate Identity Hub™ databaseitself, users designing custom reports in this manner must understand the reporting databaseschema. In broad terms, some of the main differences are:

► Each extracted attribute from mpi_segattr is given its own table

► Attributes are reduced to significant fields (for example, the Comment field in phonesis ignored)► Pre-calculated facts are created and stored that represent statistical information

about the data, such as the number of members in a Zip code, an area code, or adata source

► A chain of superseded member relationships is reflected in a single database entry► Entity-level extractions “roll up” identical member attribute values to a single value

The extraction process is divided into three main sections with attendant sub-processes:

1. Initiate Identity Hub™ attribute extractiona. Initiate Identity Hub™ attribute unloadb. Reporting database table load

c. Basic statistical fact calculations2. Task extraction

a. Task-related data unloadb. Reporting database table loadc. Database view creation

3. Profiling data generationa. Reports 1 and 2 source-level instance frequenciesb. Reports 3, 4, and 5 instance pattern statisticsc. Report 6 cross-tabulation statistics

The following graphic illustrates the extraction processing order.

Chapter 3: Install BusinessObjects XI

OverviewThis chapter provides step-by-step instructions for installing BusinessObjects XI and creating a

repository for companies who are not already using BusinessObjects XI. These instructions areparticular to the Initiate Identity Hub™ Reports and may differ slightly from theBusinessObjects XI installation instructions.

Pre-install AssumptionsThe following assumptions have been made regarding the system on which you are installingBusinessObjects XI:

► This is a Windows® operating system that is supported by Business Objects forBusinessObjects XI. Refer to the Product Availability Report (PAR) for the supportedoperating systems. As of this printing, the PAR can be found on the Business Objectsweb site athttp://support.businessobjects.com/documentation/supported_platforms/default.aspNOTE: Should you wish to install the Initiate Identity Hub™ Reports on an operatingsystem not supported by Business Objects, ensure that BusinessObjects XI isinstalled on a separate computer which conforms to the specifications listed in thePAR.

► A java application server is not already installed on this server; Tomcat will beinstalled as part of the BusinessObjects XI installation. (If you have an applicationserver installed that you prefer to use, you can select the Use preinstalled Javaapplication server option on the Choose Web Component Adapter Type dialogpage, but the configuration of BusinessObjects XI for use with an existing Javaapplication server is outside the scope of this document.)

► A Java Development Kit (JDK) has not been installed on this server, nor has the

JAVA_HOME environment variable been declared.► BusinessObjects XI software has not been installed on this server.

► This server does not have multiple Network Interface Cards (NIC) cards.

► The user installing BusinessObjects XI is logged into the server with ‘Administrator’rights.

► The Initiate Hub Engine, Initiate Hub Manager, Initiate Auditor have been previouslyinstalled on this computer or another computer accessible on this network, and theInitiate Hub Database has been populated with data.

Create the BusinessObjects XI repository and ODBCconnectionThis database will be used to contain the BusinessObjects XI repository.

Create an Empty Database1. Create an empty database, for example, “boximain.” Use the following parameters:

Collation name: SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_ASDB compatibility level: 70Recovery model: simple

NOTE: To avoid complication, you may want to consider using the same name for thedatabase, the database user, and the ODBC data source.

2. Create a user for the new database and give the user create table and drop table rights.Depending upon the platform, this may be dba or db_owner .

Make a note of the names you used in the above steps, as you will need them when creating anODBC data source.

Create an ODBC Data Source to Communicate With the DatabaseUse the Windows® ODBC Data Source Administrator to create an ODBC data source for theBusinessObjects repository database created above.

► Create the new data source under the System DSN tab.

► If the database platform you installed supplied an ODBC driver and you find it in thelist, you should choose that driver first. If that driver does not exist, you may selectone of the ODBC drivers that came with your current operating system. Be awarethat your operating system may not have shipped with a driver that will work withyour current database version.

► Choose a name for the DSN that identifies it as the BusinessObjects repositorydatabase data source.

If applicable, continue with installing BusinessObjects XI.

Install BusinessObjects XIThis section describes how to install BusinessObjects XI onto a Windows ® server.

1. Log into the server as the Windows ® Administrator. 1

2. Browse to the BusinessObjects XI CD or a directory on the server to which the CD’scontents have been copied and run the “setup.exe” program.

3. You are asked to choose a language in which to run the Setup program. Select yourdesired language and click OK .

4. The first screen is a splash screen welcoming you to the BusinessObjects installationwizard. Click Next .

1 For the purposes of this installation doc ument we require the user to log in specifically as the“Administrator.” It is possible to log in as a user with Administrative rights, but then you would beconfiguring the software to have the programs run as “services” and would need to explicitly grantthe appropriate rights to users. This would be a significantly more complicated install and is outsidethe scope of this document.
