Environmental Development

“Environmental Development - management of the environment such that there is harmony between economic growth, social development and environmental protection.” (Qatar National Plan 2030 p. #6)

“We need to care for our natural environment for it was entrusted to us by God to use with responsibility and respect for the benefit of human kind. If we nurture our environment, it will nurture us.” (Moza bint Nasser Al-Misnad)

My opinion

By 2022 I think Qatar will be fully developed. I also think that Qatar needs to work as fast as possible if they want to be fully environmentally developed by 2022, the time when Qatar is hosting the Fifa World Cup. This means that all industrial developments and projects and constructions sites will be done. In order to be fully environmentally developed is very hard because of all the pollution and other environmental effects. Such things as pollution could really affect Qatar when they are trying to become full environmentally developed.

Environmental Friendly Projects

• By 2030 most of these environmental friendly projects should be done. These institutions are dedicated to the environment and the awareness of people. They will help the preservation of the environment. One of the biggest future projects for Qatar is definitely going to be the “Green” Qatar Project.

Fifa World Cup - 2022

• Based on Qatar’s bid information it says that Qatar’s environmental projects and protection activities will be finished by 2022 and the 22 lighthouse projects for the environment will be finished by then too.

Stadiums

In order to be fully environmentally developed Qatar has to get building the stadiums for the Fifa 2022 World Cup in Doha. They have still not yet started the building of these stadiums. After 2022 all of the stadiums that will be utilized for the even will need upgrades in order to stay in good shape.

The Plan

Qatar’s plan for the Environmental Development pillar is to basically raise awareness throughout its community. The plan is to preserve our environment and encourage our people to live eco-friendly lives. This plan requires help from everyone in the country and not just a certain institutions such as the “Green” project, or ECO QATAR.

Environmental Laws

The Qatari government should come up with much more laws (legal system) to keep the environment safe. In 2022 there will be millions of people coming to Qatar and if there aren’t strict enough rules the environment will not be safe and might be damaged. If Qatar comes up with these laws before 2022 it would be great because then the foreigners coming to Qatar will follow these rules.

The Plan (Continued)

These institutional projects are great ideas for the Environmental Development pillar. They will keep the people of Qatar reminded that we can’t use up all of our natural resources. This vision for these plans is to have these environmental projects should be up and running by 2030.

Raising Awareness

Qatar is planning to preserve the environment by raising awareness. It will let people know that we can’t just treat our environment badly. Obviously Qatar will do this with the help of the future environment projects.

Outcomes

Preserving and protecting the environment, including air, land, water and biological diversity, through:

An agile and comprehensive legal system that protects all elements of the environment, responding quickly to challenges as they arise.

An environmentally aware population that values the preservation of the natural heritage of Qatar and its neighboring states.
