You look at a car that you follow. You look at a car that you are following. You look at the on coming traffic unless you are driving on freeway. When you need to change lanes, you look at cars that are following

you and cars that are driving to the lane that you want to go to. Before you apply brakes, you need to look at cars behind you. You have to be considerate to other road users when you drive a car.

Driving a Car

Alike to project management. You are not responsible for cost management in the project, but if you are responsible for time management, you should make sure that you don’t delegate unnecessary time to less important parts of the project that the company or the school has to pay for.

When we were running UJ open day, a lot of money went to the stations that the learners did not need much. We had had private collages like Damelin and Rosebank college but most learners did not really go there because to them it was not as important as the other stations like NSAFAS station.

You can see that money and space went to what is not as important because of just bad delegation and time management.

Change of time in a project

Change of time in a project does not mean that you are failing to run a project, but it means that you foresee how beautiful your project could be if you change times allocation.

When you are driving a car, to change to other lane does not mean that you are not driving well, but you change lanes because you see that you will be better of driving at another lane. You might be following a taxi that can make an abrupt stop to pick a passenger (SA roads) or you might be following a truck that drives supper slow.

When driving a car, you need to know that your mistake could cost a car that is following you or a car that you are following

Same as driving. Making a mistake might cost other parts of the project

Delegating wrong people could cause communication because you can not communicate well with your team that does not understand each other or you.

I have already spoke about cost referring to UJ open day. Risk management is always a scapegoat when time management is

not effective. I will refer to the unfortunate stampede that took place in Bunting road UJ campus 2012. Time was not managed well and students did not have a clear information about the whole process and they stood there for hours.

Conclusion…

Be daring enough to remove what you think will waste time in a project. Of cause with the help of your co-workers and the people you plan with.

Managing time in a project goes beyond just managing time but you get to manage other parts of the project while managing time.

The bad news about time is that it flies; the good news is that you are the pilot!

Plan it well, when it starts flying, you will fly with it!
