Congratulations to everyone involved in the Band Recital night, it was an outstanding evening that showcased the amazing talents of our students. Our partnership with the Northern Rivers Conservatorium and the high standard of our tutors has given the Wilderband, Bunyip Band, Senior Band & Strings Ensemble the opportunity to develop their musical talents, culminating in this highly polished and most enjoyable recital. There were some stand out individual performances, along with duets, trios and group performances. A BIG thank you to the Band Director, Cameron Smith, for his dedication to excellence and to the tutors, Alicia, Kate, Neil and Michael for their wonderful support. We also appreciate the work of Lisa Wentworth, Celia Cheetham, Vicky Liddle, Lydia Karp, Cheryl Booker and the teachers who supported the evening. It was a real team effort. Band Busking Day After a spectacular performance to their family and friends at the Recital, our band students took over Jonson Street to showcase their musical talents to the town. They busked in groups all the way to the top park, and made a collective $733.65 (That s a record!). After all that hard work, a jump in the pool was in order and of course - fish and chips for lunch! Planning for 2019 We have commenced our planning and organisation for 2019. If you know that your child/ren won’t be attending our school in 2019, with the exception of Year 6 students, could you please inform the office immediately. Similarly, if you are aware of any students moving into our area who will be attending our school in 2019, please ask the families to make contact with the school this week. We need this information to form classes for next year. Also, if you are having an extended holiday and your child/ren will not be back at school on the first day, please let us know in writing before the end of the year. Until next time, Mrs Linda Trigg Principal

Band News There will be no more band practice for the remainder of the year. Last lessons for 2018 Friday 14 December for students working with Michael and Cameron; Tuesday 18 December for students working with Kate, Neil and Alicia. All instruments and band shirts to be returned at the last lesson. Our last band meeting for the year will be held on Monday 12 December at 4pm at the Byron Bay Services Club. Please join us. New band enrolments and re enrolments for 2019 are now open via the Conservatorium website. Thank you to everyone involved in the band program this year.

SRC Talent Quest The SRC Talent Quest is coming up on Monday 17 December. Students who can play instruments, tell jokes, perform magic tricks, dance, sing or anything else are all welcome to sign up on Thursday and Friday this week and Monday next week at second half lunch in the Stage 2 eating area. Our Talent Quest is held during school time and is performed in front of K-6 only, it is not open to parents, visitors or any members of the public.

KP Circus Arts KP entered the Circus Arts competition and won. The prize was a free two hour lesson for all of KP. The students said “it was amazing because we got to swing on the flying trapeze” and “it was awesome because we had a lesson on how to use the silks”. Miss Powell

Choir News Recently, the Stage 3 Choir recorded a song at S.A.E (School of Audio and Engineering). We were recorded because we are auditioning to sing for the Sydney Choir, at the Opera House next year. At the studio we were put in a room where there were microphones and cameras left, right and centre. The Stage 3 Choir learnt that when you get recorded you usually don’t get it right the first time round, because we had to do it multiple times. By the end of the day we were happy with how it went. It was a great experience and we thank the SAE for letting us use their amazing facilities and also the P&C for sponsoring our bus trip out there. Josh and Cinta (5W)

Fire Truck Visit Last Thursday, Kindy enjoyed a visit from a fire truck. We learnt to 'get down low and go,go, go!' Also the importance of having a working smoke alarm. Thank you Cameron and the fire fighters from Byron Bay Fire Station for taking the time to visit us.

Band leader Cameron, loving his new socks. A gift from the

students for all of his hard work.
