From the Principal’s desk Playing is an effective tool for child development. It contributes to the all-round development of

the child - cognitive, physical, social and emotional.

The earlier generation did not have a tryst with video games, electronic toys, and innumerable

TV channels. They were lucky. These days children spend more and more time indoors, instead

of playing outside often and walking down to the school even in the cold winter mornings.

One of the most important reasons for this is the overprotective nature of parents. They want to

protect their children from dust, sunlight, cold etc. They fail to realise that exposure to these will

develop their immunity and help to manufacture Vitamin D which is required for strong bones.

Playing outdoors, even if it is, for a short while, during lunch break every day or for a whole

period during PT periods, instils positive socialization and strengthens relationships thus

boosting the EQ of the child. Play has a power to heal resentments, disagreements and

altercations. So, let parents and other elders make a conscious effort to incorporate play in the

child‟s daily routine.

How right was George Bernard Shaw! He said, “You don‟t stop playing because you grow up.

You grow up because you stop playing.”

From the editor’s desk “Qui audet adipiscitur” is a Latin phrase which means, „Daring to try something new or

difficult‟. This phrase is truer today, than it was in ancient Rome. So all of us should try and

internalize this and incorporate it into our day to day activities. Especially when the opportunity

comes knocking and the spirit of the task is right.

Children, you should realize that your school, NPS BSK, offers you a plethora of opportunities

which creates a demand on your time, mental abilities and resources. Try not to shy away or

grumble, for every little act of yours is a learning experience and a saving in the bank of

personality development. Never let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game.

From the student editor The making of an incredible and clean India has restarted. Daily-life incidents and changes

justify the above statement. One such change is the banning of the 500 and 1000 rupee notes.

This action has left all the corrupt people helpless. They have to either claim their money and

pay heavy taxes or throw it away as it has no value. But for righteous people, there is no

problem. We can get them exchanged in banks and post offices. The only problem is

withdrawal of money from ATMs which is also solved with the help of self cheques.
