Parish Transformation Survey Make Your Voice Heard
As you have been reading and hearing these past couple of weeks, our par-ish is participating in the Parish Transformation Initiative this Fall. Through Parish Transformation, we will evaluate and reflect upon how we are living out Christ’s mission through our parish community and develop a plan that will provide us with a road map for how we live out this mission even more vibrantly as we continue on our faith journey.
An important element of the Parish Transformation process is receiving feedback from everyone in the parish. I know that not everyone will be able to commit the time to attending the meetings each week, but we need your input. Therefore, I am asking you to complete the survey that is available online or in the back of the church in a print form. The survey should take a maximum of 20-30 minutes to complete. This will be important feedback for the Parish Transformation Team as it reviews what we may need to do dif-ferently as a parish. For those of you who are comfortable with computers, I encourage you to complete the survey online at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/ParishTransformationFall2013
We also have a link to the survey on the front page of our parish website.
Through Parish Transformation, we are hoping to surface ideas and ap-proaches that will help our parish even more vibrantly live out Christ’s mis-sion and help all of us to grow stronger in faith and closer to Christ. We are also hoping to surface ideas and approaches that will help us reach our friends who have drifted away from their faith. Therefore, I am also request-ing that you ask 2-3 friends or family members who have been part of our parish family in the past but have drifted away from the Church to take this survey. If we are to bring our friends and neighbors back to the Church, we need to understand their point of view.
If you are completing a paper copy of the survey, please return it by drop-ping it into the collection basket, giving it to one of the priests in the back of the church or dropping it off at the parish office. If you can it is easier to complete the survey online. Either way, please complete the survey as soon as possible.
Thank you for your time and thoughtful feedback.
KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS COUNCIL MEETING
Wednesday, September 4 The next council business meeting will take place on Wednesday, Sep-tember 4, at St. John Brebeuf Parish Ministry Center at 7:30 p.m. Meetings are only 60 minutes long and there is interesting conversa-tion, information and the refresh-ments are terrific! Please join us! For more information or if you're interested in joining, contact parish-ioner Steve Baggio at 773.315.1621 or Pierre Zermatten at 847.323.0914.
HUMILITY...Today’s reading from Sirach celebrates what will become the theme of today’s Gospel: humil-ity. Pride causes us to demand from others an exalted estimate of our status, but humility allows us to see things more clearly. It allows us a broader perspective. Humility prom-ises us the favor of God and the love of those who know us. The second reading is a study in con-trasts: the giving of the Law on Mount Sinai and the giving of salva-tion on Mount Zion. The Law’s ap-pearance is greeted with solemnity, mystery, even fear. But Christians are not to be afraid. Coming to God’s mountain with Jesus, “the mediator of a new covenant,” is a happy, exu-berant experience. The parable in today’s Gospel con-cerns the danger of pride and the necessity of humility. The banquet setting, often used by Jesus, is a sym-bol of heaven’s abundance and of the fulfillment of God’s promise. The parable is not simply good advice on how to avoid embarrassment; it is about salvation.

You may be a candidate to try the sound enhancement from the Listen Assistive Sound System if you: • struggle to hear the readers at
Mass • always sit underneath a speaker
in church hoping to hear the priest more clearly
• wish that there were a way to boost the sound in the Church just for you

AND WE'RE OFF… The 4th and 5th Graders of Saint Juliana School have officially begun their LEARNING ADVENTURES! The journey started in Mrs. Boldt's English class by creating "suitcases" packed full of written reflections about what they hope the new school year will offer and what challenges may await them. "Passports of Learning" will be stamped as each topic of study is completed throughout the year. Please keep these Academic Adventure Seek-ers in your prayers this year! We Pray...Father of goodness and love, hear our prayers for the sick members of our community and for all who are in need. Amid mental and physical suffering may they find consolation in your healing presence. Show your mercy as you close wounds, cure illness, make broken bodies whole and free downcast spirits. May these special people find lasting health and deliverance, and so join us in thanking you for all your gifts. We ask this through the Lord Jesus who healed those who believed. Amen.

Your thoughts, prayers, friendship and support are very much ap-preciated by our family, as we fight this battle together. We hope you can join us in raising money to help lighten the financial burden of John's medical expenses.
